I have been looking at a basic UPS for my PC. I have two questions:

**Why are the joule ratings on UPS back-ups so low? Most are around 400 joules and my current APC SurgeArrest is 2050 joules of protection.

**I have a 850w power supply in my rig. Does it matter what the VA rating is on the UPS?

I am looking for the power conditioning benefits of the UPS and not the battery back-up.

1 idk but i never had any thing get fried hooked up to a ups
2 yes and no you need a ups that can handle your pc under max load + at least 20%. so even though you have a 850w psu least just say your pc pulls 500W under max load then a 600w ups would work. if it pulls 850 then you need at least a 1kw ups.
as for the battery back up you will fall in love whit it the first time the power goes out:)
