I'm trying to ship an 800D but I don't have the original box, can I take it to UPS and have them box it up for me?

Yes you can, but it's going to cost you like $25 or something. It was somewhere around that area when I had to ship my P180.

I would also recommend taking picture of the inside of the package when it is all packed to show UPS that it was packed properly in case it gets damaged. Also you will need a invoice or receipt to prove the value to UPS if you have to claim it. I know these cases are expensive.

Good luck.

The recipient should be able to refuse shipment on it if the exterior of the shipping box looks obviously damaged. Insurance should be better able to cover it in that case, because it's obvious that it was UPS at fault.

Rule of thumb:
If you ship UPS, package it extra-well, box in a box if you can, with extra packaging material. The extra few bucks it will be to ship is worth the peace of mind.

I recommend Fedex personally.

I've always perferred Fedex over UPS also.

Thanks a lot guys, I can only find boxes that are way too big or doesn't fit it so I think $25 bucks for them to do it right sounds fair. I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures. Thanks!

As a fedex driver myself. I advise you to write in marker Computer Case Fragile if its a unmarked box. I always treat those boxes a little better then the rest in my truck when I know they have cool/nice things in them. Also dont let them pack your box waste of money IMO. Just check around your local stores for free boxes and packaging crap. You can always find a box that a little bigger and cut it down to size.

Oh definitely agreed about trying to pack it yourself. I cringed after I sent my P180 out.

Don't worry if the box is bigger, as long as its not 2x too large, it will be fine, just fill it with as much packing material as you possibly can, it's better off that way.

Let me know if you get it shipped for $25 bucks though. If you do it must not be going far. But i rather pack my own and know it was done right instead of letting someone else do it.
