UPS help

My answer to the question is;

YES

But in order to do so, you will need to use a nekkid dwarf perched on top of it in the pose of the silver lady.

I can answer your question, but first you must answer mine: what is the difference between

What are you system specifications?
What will be connected to the UPS?
What is your expected run time?
Does your area suffer from dirty power (and thus need A.V.R.)?

Interesting read. While I won't pretend that I understood everything in it, it did get me thinking and now I'm not so sure that the UPS will be enough.

It would be used for my computer and external drives. The computer will be a i7-930 build with a single 5870. I plan on putting in a 850W PSU.
I'm thinking of getting one mainly because I'm spending a lot of money on my computer, and I don't want anything damaged if the power suddenly dies (which has happened before in this house). It wouldn't have to run for very long, just long enough for me to power down the computer properly.

Am I right in assuming that the UPS won't be enough to power a computer with a 850W PSU?

No. The size of the PSU doesn't matter. What does matter is the actual power consumption of the components connected to it. The PSU will only draw as much power as it needs to in order to power the system, regardless of whether it's a 500W or 1200W unit.

So how do I figure out how big of a UPS I need?

My build:
GA-X58A-UD3R
i7-930
Noctua NH-D14
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
2x Spinpoint F3's
Powercolor 5870 PCS+
Corsair HX850
Cheap Optical
HAF 932

What would this need?
