UPS Battery recharging

When SLA batteries are dead, they're dead. If they over 3 years old just replace them, it's cheaper anyway. I put new batteries in a couple of my Smart-UPS's and you should be able to find them locally for $40-60 for the set from a good battery store.

The batteries aren't old they're just very discharged due to sitting for 4+ months. I guess I'll just try and if they end up not being salvegable then I'll get some new ones.

Well if they're only a year or two old then a battery charger will probably bring them back to life. I'm guessing the UPS doesn't want to start up with them connected so your trying to give them a jump start?

Sitting for that long without being charged is very bad for VRLA batteries. You can try to charge them and then check their DC float voltage (~12.5 - 13) and AC mv (should be double digits at most) when they are not connect to anything. If they check out and are not protecting a critical load, go ahead and use them.

Well, even after a good deep-cycle recharge they aren't holding, so I guess I'll order some new batteries. I found a place on e-bay that will send me three sets for about $110 shipped. w00t
