So i have a UPS thats in great shape that im not going to be using for awhile. I was wondering does it hurt the unit to have it unplugged or would it be better to leave it plugged in hooked up to a device even if im not using the device very often.

Follow the storage instructions for the type of battery used in the UPS, then keeping it unplugged for a while won't hurt it at all.

The best way to make any piece of electronic gear last longer is to unplug it.

Same goes for UPS units. Just unplug it and if possible unplug the internal battery. It should sit on the shelf just fine or just sell it.

Depending on the battery, it might not be good to just leave it on the shelf. Some have certain ideal storage requirements that will make them last longer.
