upgrading

well... i was wondering this:

if i want to upgrade my whole system
what socket should i go for?

if i want tot go intel it's socket 775 i guess
but for amd is it socket 939 or am2 ?

or should i wait for something new that's coming?
i'm really a noob if it comes to this kind of stuff...
so i'd be really happy if anyone could help me out

socket 775 currently offers the best performance using Core 2 duo chips but, there are many questions you need to ask yourself first. Questions such as, is performance or cost more important? How do you use your computer? How often do you upgrade? All of these will have a bearing on what platform and components are right for you.

The rig in your sig looks good still. Are you having any issues with it? The only weak component you have is the vidcard.

Unless your a hardcore gamer, than you would upgrade your whole system. But, a good upgrade of your video card and bump your memory to 2 gig is good already. For under $200 you can get a Geforce 7900GS or an ATI X1950Pro. The ATI is a little faster and cost a little more. If you want to go cheaper, $150 then, ATI X1900GT. However, if you want to go $250+ then, ATI X1950XT is an awesome performer for the price.
