I've looked at the sticky, but it not contain any info I needed.

I've got three rigs...

P4 2.4 with a 9800 pro, 1 gig of ram
P4 1.8 with a geforce 2 mx 400, 1.2 gigs ram
AXP 2800 with a geforce mx440, 512 ram

Obviously two of the rigs blow when it comes to video cards. I'm looking to upgrade the 1.8 rig since the AXP one does not do much gaming.

My 2.4 ghz rig has 1 gig of ram and a 350 watt psu

the 1.8 rig has 1.2 gigs of ram and a 300w psu and only supports agp 4x.

My question is, should I buy a 9600pro for the 1.8 rig (this will be used to play new games) or should i move the 9800 pro into the 1.8 and upgrade my 2.4 to a 6800 or 6800gt?

I'm not looking to upgrade any other components.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not really keen on this subject.
 
Personally, I would use the AXP for gaming over the 1.8 P4 anyday.

If you're looking for a decent card, I would look in the FS/T forums and find a AGP GeForce 6600/6600GT. They are selling on there about $100/$130 respectively and would toast a 9600pro by far.

If you're sure you want to use the P4s for gaming, I would get a 6800 series for the 2.4 and put the 9800pro in the 1.8. Though I still think you'd be surprised by that AXP 2800 in gaming performance.
 
WOW... u tossed the 9800pro in the 2.4 pentium 4.. is that even a northwood core?? throw it in the aXP2800+ overclock that to 3200+ speeds and caboom!!!
 
Yes its Northwood, but surprisingly, I have not had any issues with any games...yet. Would a 6600GT or a 6800GT be ok with that system?

The 6800GT's are still out of my price range, but I don't want to buy a card and then regret it three months later.

As for the 2800...I had no idea...maybe I'll steal it back from my little sister, give her the 1.8 and hand the 2.4 over to my brother...hehe.

Are 2800 Athlon XP's really better than 2.4gig Intels? I don't overclock.

AXP for gaming, you have it all fucked up dude.

AXP FOR GAMING!!!!

BTW that AXP should be able to not bottle neck with a 6800gt. If you OC it to 3200+ it'll rock hardcore.

I don't only play games. I also capture and edit videos and burn dvds, as well as encode music so I think I'm in the clear...However I think I'll switch the AXP and the 1.8 around.
 
is there a considerable difference between the 6600gt and the 6800 non gt?
 
not much, but if ya have the money for the 6800.... by all means get it.. it is a bit faster at higher resolutions and has a great chance to unlock teh extra pipelines...
