upgrading water block required if upgrading proc?

i am planning on upgrading my processing from an athlon 2500+ to possibly an athlon 64 x2 4200+ soon. whatever it is i upgrade to will be an athlon 64 x2, in any case. i currently am using the danger den Maze 4 for athlon xp processors. is it necessary for me to upgrade to the maze 4 for athlon 64 processors? is there any difference between them beyond marketing?
 
First of all, I'd get a 3800 and buy a new waterblock... That'd be about the same price as just the 4400. Yes, the Maze 4 isn't anywhere near as good as the TDX blocks, and... it might not fit. You can always use the Maze to wc the NB or a GPU if you'd like. :rolleyes:
 
Sure a newer waterblock might get you a couple of degrees cooler...

But my advice is that if what you have now fits and mounts securely, then keep it.

you either need a new top or to make an adapter.

if you live in the US, buying the new top is probably your best bet.

i live in canada, so shipping costs and times are prohibitive. i made an adapter plate for my maze 4-1 copper-top when i moved from aXP to a64. a sheet lexan plastic with a few carefully placed holes did the trick.

just be really careful putting things back together and test for leaks thoroughly after you swap tops. it's not easy to get the o-ring to seat and seal properly.
