Upgrading video card worth it?

Right now my system is getting a little long in the tooth but it's still holding up fairly well so I am not ready to do a full new build.

Right now my main components are

Intel Core i5-2500K OC'd to 4.2Ghz
16gb CORSAIR Vengeance DDR3 1600(PC3 12800)
Nvidia GTX 780
Acer GD245HQ
500gb Samsung Evo-840
MSI P67A-GD65

I play mostly 1st/3rd person shooter action type games. I do very little video/photo editing and don't stream games at all. Just game, surf the net and watch movies and listen to music on this rig. I am running the monitor at 1080p @ 144hz.

I was thinking of upgrading the video card to be able to play BF5 at max quality. I was leaning towards the RTX 2080 but for what I have I think it might be overkill so I was thinking the RTX 2070 would do just fine and save a few bucks. What do you folks thing is the best bang for the buck?

Also, any recommendations on a new monitor as well? I might splurge and go for a 4k monitor and GPU. Then sometime next year upgrade the rest of the components. Thanks!

Grab a 2nd hand aftermarket 1080 (with decent cooling so it can be run near silent) while you can.
Its a great card for high Hz 1080p, you wont need more.
The limiting factors will become your CPU generally and ram speed to keep minimums up.
See how you get on before changing them.

You can test the max framerate your CPU/ram will support by using 720p res.

You have a similar build that I do. I'm rocking a 3470 and a 770. I have a new build in the works, but plan on getting a 1080ti to start off. Then move on to the MoBo/RAM/CPU later on. I'd rock a 1080 for sure.

It can be a hassle and risk to find a decent used one though. I wish they'd drop the price on those leftover 1080ti cards.
