Upgrading USB adapters?

I'm still new to the whole networking area, so you'll have to forgive me.

We currently have a Westell VersaLink 327W (free from AT&T) and we just upgraded our plan to their DSL EXTREME 6.0 mbps (you know it's EXTREME because it says so in the name.)

Our two MacBook Pros see a BIG difference in speed now. Our desktops... not so much. As it turns out they use 802.11b adapters (again, free) so I'm guessing that's the problem. If I upgrade the adapters alone, will the desktops see the speed?

And any recommendations on a USB adapter?

Go to newegg.com and find the best (by ratings) USB 802.11g adapter you can afford.

I guess question 2 is how it the Westell?

Definitely not the best there is, but is it acceptable for these speeds?

For 6Mbps yes, 802.11g is perfectly fine. I have a 20Mbps connection and my wireless laptops can pull 15Mbps. So in my situation I should upgrade to 802.11n but 15Mbps is plenty fast enough for my laptops.

What you don't want is for the WiFi to be bottle necking you're speed you pay for from you're ISP.

Run a speedtest here and see if you are getting what you paid for.
