Well now since I have my X800XT I have the feeling that my 3200+ is not letting it shine as much as it should..... nForce 4 is not an option since this is a AGP card... I have about 500$ to spend on a Processor Motherboard and Power Supply

MY current specs are

3200+
1 GB DDR 400 Mushkin Level I
37 Gig Raptor
X800XT AGP
Antec True Power 430W

I was looking at the DFI lanparty and the 3400+ Necastle for about 330$..I know it the older soket 754 but the proc is 2.4 gigs right out of the box and i love the mobo...They say that 939 is future proof but by the time the 3400+ gets slow I am sure there will be something newer and faster then soket 939....But in the past i never upgraded the processor it self i always do mobo and proc.....

So do you guys think am doing the right thing ? Suggestions and Comments Welcome :)

On the Powersupply it a Antec True Power 430W and it doing fine now but will I be ok with the new mobo and proc or should i get a new one ? If so which one and i dont want to spend over 100$ on it

you probably want to talk to them power experts, but 430 sure sounds like enough. Did you crunch the numbers to check it?
 
get a 3400 a64 mobile. i seen people oc those to 2.7ghz
 
If I remember the article I read like 6 months ago - the newest series of high end cards from both ATI and Nvidia are power hungry - My suggestion is to check your power supply to ensure stability and low heat goodness. Oh yeah, and you can sell your old parts in the FS/Trade forum, so you can afford a stronger psu. Just a thought.

Going from a 3200+ to a 3400+ does not sound like a big enough jump in speed to see much difference. (Off hand I'd say mebbe 10%...) IF you can get a great overclocking cpu and board - then perhaps a noticable boost will occur... But then you will definately have to upgrade both psu & memory... not to mention cooling...
 
i will see a decent increase in games and stuff like that cuz i mainly game

The ram is fine not to mention it overclocks very well and runs 2-2-2-5

And for the psu I will prob get the Forton 530W :)

So your Antec 430w is fine
 
Your PSU is fine.
What AMD 3200+ is it? XP or AMD64? If it is AMD64 - No point in upgrading.
If you choose 754 over 939, you wont miss out on much, apart from dual channel memory, which could help you. If you choose 754, in a few months you wont be able to get any new processors for it, so If you want to have it for more than a few months, get a 939.
 
yeah i tought that my psu should be fine I jsut wasnt sure.....

The processor is a 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ so if i think it should be a decent upgrade and my X800XT would apprichiate it...

That the exact reason am geting soket 754 because I wont upgrade at least for a year or 2 depending how this system keeps up :)
 
With 500$ I'd still go s939. There's a lot more overclocking potential to be had. I'll post a spec when I get home tonight.

I say go Socket 939, A64 = AWSOME.. plus , sorry to shine here but I have a question.. I bought an Abit AV8 Motherboard and AeroCool HT-101, will it work on my socket 939 A64? It says it supports 754 but all Amd 64 processors... I am confused.. Plus I cannot get it to screw on correctly!! :(
 
Ok, I thought you were going A64 to A64 not XP to A64 - then yeah you should get a good boost. Socket 939, although it has less cache, has had some manufacturing improvements, and isn't 939 dual channel memory and 754 not? Because of these things, 939 is slightly faster clock for clock than a 754. Anyway, the smaller process core is lower wattage (less heat too) and should enable better overclocking. Not to mention less chance of having to upgrade the psu.
Wish I could upgrade...
