I've had the following config for almost 2 years.

Asus A8V Deluxe rev 2.0
AMD64 3500
2 Gig Crucial Ram
Geforce 6800GT -256 MB AGP
Audigy 2
160GB Seagate SATA drive
NEC DVD Burner (dont remember model).
Enermax 470 Watt Powersupply

Finally making the jump to Amd64 X2.
Yah, yah, I know, the X2's are old news, but with the price drops
its hard not to upgrade.

Besides, this new to ME, and ultimately thats all that matters ;)

I got the X2-4800 on the way from the Egg.
I'm not doing any overclocking, so just paid a little extra for the 4800.

Successfully flashed the bios last night.
Burned DVD's of email, important data, etc...
Gonna try to just upgrade XP Pro.
If I have any problems, then I will rebuild the OS.

Down the road I may upgrade to a NForce 4 motherboard, and PCI-Express video card.

Great buy! You'll love the dual core.

I just upgraded from 3200+ to x2 4400 running at 2.4ghz. Smooth as silk.

weird;

my current processor == A64 3500+
my new processor == A64 X2 4800+

i also have a GeForce 6800 GT....

STOP FOLLOWING ME!!!

lol gratz on the upgrade though.

Yep!

I also upgraded from a 3000+ Winchester to a X2 3800+ Manchester. I'm seriously enjoying the performance increase. All my games seem snappier, most likely to system resources taking the other core.

When using multi-threaded applications and also working in Windows XP external to gaming the system performs like it never has before!

Cheap upgrade considering I'll now get several more years of use, just like the couple of years from the 3000+ I had.

Yea, I am upgrading too, couldn't resist the price. I have an Asus A8V, with an AMD 64 3000+, just bought an AMD X2 4400+.

Not going to overclock, not my thing, but at least this will make my computer last a little longer.

Can't wait to feel the speed.

Youll love the 4800+, its a nice cpu. X2's still have plenty of life left in them, not old news yet :)

I'm upgrading workstations in the office with used x2s and 939 mobos. They are truly a bargain right now. If only memory prices would drop a bit...

I ordered my X2 4800+ yesterday. That will be an upgrade for me from a A64 3700+ Sandy. I'll let you guys know how things went. I can't wait to see. These price drops from AMD were just impossible to ignore!

I too couldn't resist the price drop.
Upgraded from a 4000+ San Diego to the X2 4800+ two days ago. Delivered 2nd day from ZZF for under $310!
Same speed and L2 but dual core!
So far it runs really nice. Really nice!
Bumped the ram so It's at 2.52GHz atm.
Coupled to two RAIDed 74GB Raptors and two BFG 7900GTX OC 512 cards in SLI, this box is a beast! :)

I haven't been benching lately (360 has had my attention of late) but I ran 06 at all stock speeds with no additional tweaking - 8400 marks. Not bad.
It was interesting to see the CPU tests actually moving on my screen. lol

have u noticed a difference in real world tasks, starting up your computer and playing CSS (nothing in backgrnd) for example lol. startup loading improved?

Actually, yes there was a couple seconds difference. Most likely due to the multi-threading nature of Windows XP itself, this allowed the hard drive communications to be handled with one core and the other house keeping tasks of the OS to be peformed on the other? In any event there was a performance improvement during startup and launching applications.

Switched from a 4000+ San Diego to an X2 4800 and have been going strong since the change! I did NOT have to install any patches or fixes and all of my games have been working perfectly.

Nice upgrade, I am planning on one from a 2.4 Ghx (single core) P4 to a 2.4 Ghz (dual core) Core 2 Duo E6600 soon. Still, for being able to keep your same mobo/ram/video card nice choice for the money. It won't be as fast as a Core 2 Duo system, but it will more than get the job done.

Curious though, I am assuming you already had XP Home? You do realize that would have worked with your new processor fine. If you didn't need the workgroup functions and some of the oddball networking features of XP Pro you could have saved yourself some money there, licensing is by socket, not by core. I run XP Pro, but that is just because I got a copy free from MS (one of the fringe benefits of working in electronics retail at the time, I got paid $100 to attend a workshop where I got lots of free software including the copy of XP Pro).
