so i have a laptop and i want to upgrade the HD. Now my question is very simple, how do i mirror the HD over to the new HD. Is there a program i can use to mirror the image onto a pc then throw it onto the new one?

well guys update, i found a program to mirror the image. now i'm trying to update the HD on the notebook. I have a toshiba and it has a Hitachi 40gb HD in it. I just bought a 120 gb fujitsu HD and when i install the new hd in, the computer is not reading it at all. any help?

Check to see if the drive is firmly in.
Go into bios and see if it recognized in their.

What app did you use to image old drive to new?

wow, i am surprised that nobody answered you:
for mirroring, i sometimes use WD's drive diagnostics tools (if using a WD drive) or driveimageXML, or most recently Linux' "dd" command.

i check and it fits firmly in. I used Acronis True Image to image the drive. The Hitachi drive says ATA-IDE and the Fujitsu says ATA-7. i don't know if that makes a difference or not.
This bios does not read the fujitsu drive at all.

So neither of these are helpful?

Sorry, I'm a bit tired today. I had a rough night last night.
