Upgrading from

i5 750
msi p55 mobo
8gb ddr3 1600
120g ssd
1tb 7200rpm barracuda
3 tb WD green

My pc routinely freezes while playing WoW. I have done some research basically coming to the conclusion that my Mobo is too old for the 7870. It will either freeze and sometimes I can ctrl alt del and WoW will not be responding and I can terminate and restart. Other times I have to hard boot. It is rather annoying so I figure I might as well upgrade rather than putting my 4870 back in =\

If your pc is freezing and you are sure your OC is stable I would make sure that your Power Supply is ok, and ok to reuse again. How old is it?

2 or 3 yrs old. It seems to be a common problem using amd drivers on older mobos that have stopped getting support. MY OC is actually pretty pathetic. Im only running at like 3 ghz. Never could get any stability higher than that =\

This is the first I've ever heard of such an issue. I haven't noticed any such issue with older systems and AMD video cards.

Have you actually tested the RAM?
Did you try a different PSU?
Did you try a different GPU?
What's the model number of that MSI mobo?
What's the model number of that SSD?

Yeah, not exactly a solid troubleshooting method there as the problems could have already been there. It could also mean that your 7870 itself is defective.

Unless you're willing to build a new PC based on poor troubleshooting and incomplete information, I highly recommend spending a day or two doing some actual troubleshooting. This is $1000 we're talking about here.
