I have an old Compaq Presario Laptop (2182US) that has seen its HDD and mainboard being replaced, and is serving use as a backup computer now. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of socket it has so i could possibly plop in a newer processor.

No offense, but if you can't even figure out how to find the specs of your own computer by urself, how can u expect to pull something as complicated as swapping out a laptop cpu.

Just download cpuz and it will tell u all the info you need about ur processor.

Actually, if you go to the Compaq site and do their "Ask Annie" or whatever the hell it is called, it will give you all the specs on the laptop I believe with the socket. 90% of the time you can just Google it and you should find something.

None taken, but FYI ive built a few systems myself, unfortunately they have all been for people with more money than me. I wanted to avoid pulling apart the laptop since my girlfriend uses it for her work right now.

So obviously you're pretty knowledgeable when it comes to computer hardware and everything. So how is it that you don't know how to figure out the specs of a computer.

It's like dropping of your car to a mechanic, and before he starts working on it he asks you what model the car is and what type of engine it has...
