upgrading speakers

I bought a set of Logitech Z3 speakers a few weeks ago. They are better than the speakers built into my monitor, at least they are louder and give a bigger sound. Unfortunately the sound is really muddy, the bass is over powered and vocals are underpowered. As a result I need to play shows pretty loud to hear the dialogue.

My budget is pretty tight but I'm thinking about a set of Logitech Z523 speakers. Would this be an upgrade or more of a "side"grade? I've read some reviews but they don't really help in making a comparison between these two.

Welcome to Logitech speaker sets. The woofers are always thuddy and like mud...and the L/R/etc are tinny and sound small.

How tight is your budget?

£40ish, some times the z523 can have a good sale.
The speakers I have do work and are loud enough.
I have other priorities now so I can't put more money into them.

Z523? I can't believe Logitech says those things reach 35hz. Rigghhtt....At what? 10 db? Get these instead, if you must spend it on something:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microlabs-MICROLABFC360-Fc360-Speaker/dp/B006812VRA/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

I can probably guarantee they'll poo all over the z523, even if they, too, make questionable claims. Otherwise, just save until you can afford better.

fwiw, in the USA you can get a Lepai Tamp($22), monitor 12v 5 amp power brick(to replace 2 amp included)($8), and Dayton 6 1/2 inch woofer 2 war speakers (varies $40-60) from amazon. I have no idea if these or equivalent are a available in UK.. Small book shelf speakers, but very worthwhile.

Thanks for the advice heflys20, I will keep an eye out for the Microlabs Fc360 instead up "upgrading" to the Z523.

@ wtourist, I'm only going to be in the UK for another year or two so I want something that will be easier to sell when I leave.

I suggest you double your budget. Not going to find any good (or even decent, IMO) speakers at that pricepoint unless you find good deals on used stuff. If you're unwilling or unable to do so then I'd look for deals on used stuff.
