Hey Guys, I recently played Unreal tourny at a friends place...Wow...I havent gamed in a year or so, so I was amazed as to how awesome it was. So, I am ready to jump back into gaming! I built my computer last summer (P4 2.4, 1 gig, 200 hdd, 9600 pro, 2 19" flat crt's) but I held off on the sound card and speakers (using some classic Boston Acoustic 2.1s and onboard)...My friends system was an audigy 2 card with the Logitech Z680s...it was screamin...

The logitechs are 260 from tigerdirect and I did not really want to pay that much for a system. I am looking for 4.1 or 5.1 system with a desk control panel thing that I can connect headphones easily. Any other systems compare to this sound quality and have these features? Also, is the audigy 2 a good card? Any other more affordable options? I also watch movies on my computer, and listen to a ton of music, so there ya go. Thanks for your help!

DONT get the logitechs!!!! i was in the same situation as you and got them. well, other than the muddy sound and the cheap bass of the sub (you dont notice it until you actually listen to better speakers like the klipsch). added to that, my set broke after a few hours use, at less than half volume. i did research and many MANY people have the same issues. do yourself a favor, get some klipsch.

or you could do what did and just hook up a stereo system. i'm extremely happy with what i put together.

two KLH tower speakers (granted they were given to me free)
yamaha htr-5630 receiver
fortissimo III with the digital out to the receiver.

it absolutely rocks and rattles the windows while still playing some of the highs extremely well. i'd go that route if you're not one to upgrade speakers every year or so

before i got my MTX sub i got a KLH sub at best buy for $120....... its sounded pretty good, but i heard about a lot of reliability issues and amps catching on fire so i decided to not risk it and take it back. the mtx is pretty nice, also hits the lower notes a bit better.

Yeah, you can get surround sound with a couple of sets of speaker. Do what I did: Labtec LCS-600 (little desktop speakers), and big Sonny's connected to their amp at the rear. You could pick up a 4-channel amp and connect them with 4 speakers to get 4 speaker surround. Top it off with a decent sound card from Hercules or Creative and you have the recipie for great sound in games.
