Well I am deciding to finnaly upgrade...

Only things that I need to upgrade is the CPU, Motherboard, and RAM..

I already got

radeon 9800 pro
audigy2zs
and a hd..

But now the cpu/mobo...

Im aiming towards around 3.0 ghz if an Intel. Are the 64 Athlons any good? I know their fast, but are they worth it? What are good motherboards for the Intel p4?

Oh and what is the diffrence between all the diffrent p4's... A, B, C... Wth..

Please help :)
 
I personally bought an Intel proc not too long ago, but my next upgrade will be A64 unless something significantly changes.

Gaming is a big issue.... along with money. If you're looking for the cheapest option, an AMD XP or Mobile cpu would probably fit the best... Mid price range would be something like an ABIT/ASUS mobo and Intel CPU, and for the most money you could get a nice A64 setup.... If you're willing to spend the money I'd recommend the 64 bit AMDs...
 
a64's are prolly cheaper than the equivalent p4. clock speeds are lower, but they're faster. go with a 754 for now, 939 in nowhere near viable. now is a really bad time to buy, though. if you can survive the current rig for a year or evven 6 mos, wait. pciE will be good, 939 will be good, ddr2 will be good, 915/925 will be good, etc. Bluray will be out (yay!) and all will be well with the world. for now, tho, all of the aforementioned technologies aren't ready for prime-time.

Don’t worry about it, as most of the letters are going away. Intel is going to a numbering system, like AMD uses sometimes… or BMW uses for most of their models.

For the remaining letters, and to learn the numbers, you can see Intel’s processor number nomenclature page at their website.
