Hey guys, I used to be a huge AMD fan but decided to try Intel out for a while during the 775 rage.

Mostly I do a lot of extracting, ps3 media server, multi-tasking and light gaming. I have been looking at the:

AMD Phenom II x6 1100t

with the

ASUS M4N75TD

as I am partial to nvidia for GPU's

What do you guys think?

Should I wait until bulldozer comes out to hopefully lower the price?
1100t too much for what I do?
All thoughts are welcomed and my current rig is in Sig

I would wait for bulldozer or get an i7 2600K or get a lower X6 and overclock.

Since you will need to pick up new cpu/mobo/ram anyway, i think you only have 2 good options:

1) buy intel

2) wait for BD

If you already had an AMD mobo and ram, I could see getting the 6 core. but for the same price you could jump to a 2500k w/ mobo and it will smoke the AMD offering.

$95 is a lot for a NForce 750 motherboard...

Like Devilpup said, since you are buying a board anyway, either go Sandy Bridge or wait for the FX processors (Bulldozer).

Though If you are going to build an AMD system, spend $100 on something that isn't a NForce chipset:
Gigabyte 970A-D3, Asus M5A87 or Asus M5A97

Nvidia GPUs will work fine on these, and you get a chipset that is still somewhat supported.
If you specifically want SLI capability, Look at the 990X/990FX AM3+ boards.

if you are upgrading now, i'd highly suggest spending the money on an AM3+ motherboard, if you need something with SLI support get a 990X or 990FX board, both chipsets have CF and SLI support. then that at least gives you something to upgrade to later on down the road when bulldozer comes out or you can wait til bulldozer prices come down to reasonable level's to purchase one.

the advantage with the 1100T is that it can be overclocked reasonably high which can extend its life but you never mentioned exactly what you plan to use it for multi-tasking wise because even an overclocked phenom II x4 955 will do all the things you listed above and save you some money in the process.

the ASUS 990FX sabertooth is worth every penny it costs, especially if you need SLI support and want to overclock. hell its even gone down in price, it originally retailed at 199.99 now its 195 dollars.

intel i5 2500 or i7 2600 is the way to go..these things are a power house...either wait for bulldozer or go intel and know you have the latest fastest thing on the market....BD will be faster in some things and slower in others but good lord your talking bout seconds...i used to build all amd stuff for myself but after running this 1366 setup its light years faster than amd's stuff....man you cant go wrong with intel...especially with sandybridge and ivy coming soon....check them out, read reviews...there awsome...

If I were looking to build today then I would probably look at an Intel setup...but what do I know I'm still using a Socket A.

get an am3+ motherboard, a cheep x4 cpu am3 and ddr3 1866 bulldozer comes out replace chip for teh win

Thanks for all the responses guys, seriously I appreciate all the advice

It really is sad that AMD doesnt have the price point/performance anymore, seriously, like looking at similar builds in intel it is only about $20-40 more to get an i5

Someone asked what I do multi tasking:
Photoshop (nothing crazy, maybe resizing pictures and fixing them), extracting, downloading linux distros through usenet, youtube, movies, music, facebook, hardforum etc

My budget was around $300ish for mobo and processor in case you were wondering

Still haven't made up my mind yet but most likely going with the i5 route unless I can find a used AMD chip super cheap. I will post when the purchase has been made

the one thing that really kept me from getting the sabertooth other than the color was where the CMOS battery was located.. right underneath the main video card. horrible horrible placement.

What do you change more often, your video card or your CMOS battery?

I don't remember the last time I had to even touch the CMOS battery. Aside from that, how hard is it to pop out a video card? Just seems like a really petty gripe to me.

the battery, when the system wont start up from a bad oc

WTF dude!?!?!? There are those little things called "jumpers" on the motherboard, to reset your CMOS... Last time I had to physically remove a CMOS battery was on a 1990 IBM PC... The battery was size of a AA battery...

AMD TX6 will serve you well. But if you cannot wait for Bulldozer than you should get 880G Chipset Motherboard which SB 850 / 6GB SATA / USB3.0. There is no point of getting 9 Series chipset IMO.

The i5 2400 is quite a bit better overall than the 1100T for around the same price, at least imo.

pc tech getting obsoleted real fast.
If i were you dont need to spend much in order to get good performance system.
=> wait for Sandy-E come out and buy 2600K from those who will jump on Sandy-E.
P67 board +2600K+RAM would be around $300-400 in few months.

I have an 870 Extreme and it's a great value, get the newer 970 Extreme for 104.99 it can do SLI and CFX, and is compatible with BD when that arrives.

Your current rig seems fine for your needs. OC that e8400 to 4GHz if you need more juice.
