At the moment I have a basic ZFS server with 8 green 1.5tb drives but I plan to upgrade the storage as is running low.
I plan to go for a norco 4224 for the 24 drive bays but am worried about the noise output. The current case is a fractal design r3 and with 8 drives is very quiet. I understand that going fron 8 drives to 24 will add more noise.
I know the norco can be made to be quiet by changing fans etc but will it be quiet enough for home use - specifically in either the bedroom or living room.
Getting a sound dampening rack is an option such as the Orion Acoustic Mini but would this lead to the drives overheating as I'm sure it wasn't designed to be used in one, especially if it is being used with quiet fans?
The motherboard I have is the supermicro X9SCM-F with H200 controller flashed to IT mode. I currently have 2 controllers, if I have them in the top 2 slots I have no problems but if I use them in other slots I get a fault warning at boot and it will only detect a single card. I can't remember the exact warning as I am currently not at my server to test it. Does anyone know how to get 3 cards working with this motherboard as it would be a requirement with the norco 4224. The current BIOS is 2a as I needed it for Ivy Bridge CPU.
On a final note, has anyone managed to get android working with smb shares on OI as my current server has problems with that, logs show a wrong password despite the correct password being entered.
Thanks in advance, TehKrak3n
