Hello everyone! I am going to be upgrading my server which is running Windows Server 2008 R2 from 1TB internal + 1TB external (backup) drives to two 2TB WD Red drives (one for backup) as well as moving the OS to a new Intel 330 60GB SSD. I have always had the server do a bare metal recovery for the OS and data partitions. The OS partition is roughly 30GB in size and I would like to restore that to the new SSD since I have everything installed and set up exactly the way I want it. Is that a good idea or even possible; i.e. restoring to a drive larger than what was backed up? Should I just start over and do a fresh install since I am going with an SSD this time?

Thanks in advance!

I actually just finished a similar project. You didn't mention which software you were using to make the images.

I ended up just doing a fresh install of the OS. It was pretty painless this time. I had planned on using CloneZilla. I have had many good results with it. Is there anything better out there that is free?
