I want to upgrade from a Diamond Viper 770V to a ATI 9600 card. Which is better the XT or Pro version?

Also my board only supports up to AGP 2x, is it even worth the money to buy this 8x card. From what I have read it is backward compatiable with 2x. Thanks for your help.
 
The 9600XT is fastest, as to the AGPx2 question, not sure about that. Most games have trouble maxing the bandwidth of AGPx8, and most only come in at AGPx4 bandwidth.
