Upgrading... need help

I have about $700. My current setup is:

XP-Mobile 2500+
NF7-S r2.0
512mb corsair pc3200
sapphire radeon 9800pro

Some of the newer games are lagging quite a bit such as EQ2, WoW, DOOM3, and im pretty sure HL2 will be in that list as soon as it comes out. I was thinking an Athlon 64 1gb ram and a geforce 6800GT. But im not sure on how well the athlon 64 performs compaired to a mobile 2500+. Maybe my processor is fine and all I need to do is upgrade my ram and video card. What do you think?

that setup shouldnt be lagging too bad, before you try upgrading see how much you can get out of omega drivers and overclocking. If you still lag, Id reccomend keeping the 9800 pro, reguardless of how its a whole 6 months old (omg) it should still work pretty well

Why not just sell the setup you have an move to A64 with a 6800? If you lack the cash, get 512 and wait a bit to upgrade to 1gb

Go with a Athlon 64 something after deciding on a mobo and pick up another 512 mb of corsair. Should be well under you price allowing you for further upgrades..

yea a 939 90nm 3000+ and a nice mobo + 6800nu and a 2nd stick of 512

Get some new RAM another 512 I think will keep u good for a while, I have a 9800 pro in my old rig and it still plays most games fine so I dont think that u need to upgrade that and if nething like some1 else said get omega drivers and oc a lil..and also if u want I would reccomend getting a better cpu/mobo combo with whatever u have left
