Okay it's been 2 years since I've upgraded my computer. Currently I've got the following;
MOBO: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI
CPU: AMD Toledo 4400
MEM: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
VID: Geforce 7800Gt 512Mb

Not upgrading
CASE: Thermaltake III
PSU: Thermaltake Silent Pure Power W0049RUC ATX12V / EPS12V 680W Power Supply
HD: 2x250G SATA drives
DVD: 16x DVD Lite-On Burner
CD: 16x CDRW Lite-On Burner
LCD: Samsung 214T 21.3" monitor

I play games like NWN, NWN2, COD4, Crysis, Frontline: Fuels of War

So I'm planning to upgrade the mobo, cpu, mem, and video.
I've always had AMD but recently everyone is saying to get Intel instead
So which is better
Intel Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850 (releasing soon 4/7)

then for video;
9800GX2
8800GTS vs 9800GTX
8800GT x2

I am ambivalent because the battle between intel and AMD can go either way. But as of now only, I am slightly leaning towards Intel because they are slightly ahead and the technology is better. Plus, i would like to wait and see about the B3 stepping on the phenom.

8800GTS is a great way to go. If you can afford it, 800gtx is a very nice card...Better than the 9800 IMO

I would stay with DDR2 memory as of now. Also, liquid cooling is nice.

Get a Q9300, Decent Board and a 9800GTX if you have $700-$800 for those Components.

Get a Q6600, Board and 8800GTS if you have $550-$650 for those components.

On A TIGHT budget, Get a Q6600, Motherboard, 9600GT for about $400..

also probably depends on price.

motherboards for intel are usually a bit more expensive.

whats your budget?

Not at all, Budget boards for the Q6600 Start at $40, Main Stream at $80 and High end at $150.. Not expensive at all..

AM2+ boards with HT3600 will cost more to run that AMD.

I just got a $500 gift certificate from my job since I went to India for 6 wks at the beginning of this year. Newegg isn't one of the places I can get a GC from but I saw TigerDirect listed so I'm getting a $500 gift certificate for there.

Saw this combo deal from them

Is this a good mobo?

Only thing I would need to get then is a video card and I would have $100 left on card so I would only need to put in $200 at most

Your setup:

CPU - Q6600 Intel Quad for $250 ($200 at Microcenter instore price)
Mobo - Abit IP35 Pro $170, Abit IP35E for $95 or Gigabyte GA-P35DS3L for $90
RAM - A-DATA 2 x 2gig DDR2 800 $70 ($50 after $20 MIR)
Video - MSI NX8800GTS O/C for $230 ($199.99 after MIR)

Forget the Phenom X4 9850. It's still slower than a Q6600 in games as well as overall performance.

Is it worth waiting the 2 weeks for a q6700. Intel prices are expected to drop on April 20th and the new price for the q6700 will be dropping by 50%.

Only if the Q6700 drops to the Q6600's old prices (~$270-$280)... but if the Q6600's price drops even further, and the Q6600 could easily be overclocked to the Q6700's speeds (they both have the same OC threshold), why even bother?
