ok my parents got abrand new free Dell Insiration 3000, 2.8Ghz with 512M ram, onboard video 17" lcd etc etc. anyways, while i was hooking it up for them i noticed that the back had no screws, only rivets! does this mean u cant even upgrade the Ram these dayz? need to send it back to dell to upgrade (or open it urself and void warrantee)? i wanted to install my GF TI4400 and another stick of 512 for them, i am also getting myne in about 2 months (also free :)) so i am kinda bummed that u cant upgrade these, but im not positive, i wonder if the front comes off err what, i dunno, just wondered if any of u guys owned a dell and had any xp with this. thx guys

I believe the Dells open up by sqeezing the gray spots on the top and bottom of the case while pulling outward.

It opens up like sideways sort of. put it on it's side push the buttons and open it that way.

To the side. The side pulls outward. You can flip it on its back, grasp the two grey areas, press, and pull up.

Depends on the model, some dells open lke a book while others have a grey tab that you push to remove the side panel. (I know the Dimension 3200 haas the later for sure)

flip through the manual, itll do wonders. and if ya need it, make for a good nights sleep, but im sure youll find out when you crack that puppy open that you can do most of the upgrads ya want on your own.... however im not sure if that particular model has an agp slot....

best of luck, and i cant tell ya how much i enjoyed voiding the warranty on my dell,

cheers,
-P

Kinda curious how you got it for free... :D
x2

and yeah.. push lay it on its side and push the grey things.. that has to be vague.. but it opens with no tools.. i kinda like their cases.. they are always heavy, quiet, and can be cracked open with no tools..

Yea, it's a clamshell design. You must balance the case carefully while pressing on two separate grey spots on the bottom and top. - haha but seriously its easy but a weird design and you can only open it up to maybe 70*.

Move cpu, ram, hdd and add to agp mobo and build yourself a pretty nice system. All you need is vid card, mobo and case/psu. - faster than mine heh.

2005 PC World Review

oh kewl i was wondering what that little thing did, i didnt want to mess with it and break something, dunno much about these new pre-built pc's, hehe.

btw i got the pc free from my tribe, i am native american, and for people that need them my tribe bought new pc's for us going to school, have kids, or own businesses :) its pretty kewl, they even gave us free internet, just dialup tho cause its the only thing available here :( but we got all-in-one HP photo-printers too, oh and they upgraded to dual roms too. come to think of it, they didnt even buy us digital cameras :( lol, oh well, I'll just have to share my 8MP sony with my parents :p

you should build the next round of computers for your tribe... convince them that you can get them more for the money.. etc.. and if they pay you enough over your cost you can offer tech support for a year.. and then cheap rates after that.... just a thought..

i actually thought about that, but about 2 years ago, they did this same thing for the first time and went through this company called NWHD or something like that, basically a little company that built a shitload of pc's for us, and about a year later people's computers were catching on fire, and all pc's had to be recalled, we are just now finally getting replacements for those. so i dunno what that company did, but i think my tribe will stay with a large rep company now, my tribe loves spending money, hehe.
