Hi all. I'm looking to do an upgrade from my stock e6400 to something a little more recent to help improve my gaming. Currently system is as follows:

Stock e6400
P5WDH Deluxe MB
4GB DDR2
GTX260 Video
Oodles of hard drives
All wrapped up in a Silverstone HTPC case

Due to the restrictions of the case I'm running a fairly weedy cooler on the processor and have had no luck overclocking so that is not an option, plus, my Dad has offered to take the old components off my hand to build a new system for another relative. One other issue with the case and the placement of the PCI Express slots is that it limits using SLI so that also isn't an option. Plan at the moment is to stick with the GTX260 and case and replace the remaining parts of the system. So far I'm considering the following:

Intel Core i5 750
EVGA P55 FTW MB
Geil Value 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz

Does this little lot look like it will give me a boost? Currently working through Mass Effect 2 and Resident Evil 5 but play most types of game. I've got the PC plugged into my 37" Samsung so gaming is all done at 1080p. All games are quite playable but with the offer of some money for the old parts would it be worthwhile doing this upgrade? TIA

I agree with g. What about the P55 FTW made you choose it over something like the GA-P55A-UD3?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I've taken the plunge and gone for the following:

Intel Core i7 920
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB)

I figured the newer socket was the best way to future proof myself.

Hope I notice a difference...

Excellent!

Parts arrived and installed and was hoping to get away without reinstalling Windows just yet. Nervously switched the machine on BAM - success, a few driver upgrades later and the machine is running perfectly. Speed is awesome and gaming has got noticeably smoother.
