I have a 9800pro 128mb that has served me well, but now I'm getting annoyed with it, ati drivers suck, the card isn't playing some games like I'd like it to.


So my question is, is there a significant speed difference between the 6600GT and the 9800Pro?
 
yes but it wont last you long. go with 6800gt .. u can find a used one for 300$ or get a new one for 350$ at newegg.com
 
Yeah, getting a 6600GT is pretty pointless.
On the other hand, if you go for a 6800GT, then you'll see some big gains.

save your money, gather your money. the next gen cards are close and will set whatever you buy now into quick obsolesence. the improvements the r520 and g70 promise appear greater than the usual next gen advancements.
 
Do you want to stay AGP for awhile or do you want to move into PCI-e? If you're staying AGP, grab a 6800GT. I moved from my 9800Pro @ 440/780 to a 6800GT, and even at stock there's a huge performance gain, but once overclocked it's incredible :D
 
I sold my 9800PRO in January for $150 on ebay then bought a 6800nu at CC for $240. Nice upgrade at a cheapo price.

thats pretty much my system. It's fast, just that I'm thinking of selling my 9800Pro for 95 to a friend and using that towards the purchase of another card....

I mean the 6800GT's are priced to sell now, some are alittle over $300 and I usually buy video cards at 299.
 
You're screwing yourself over if you're selling your Radeon 9800Pro for $95, you could easily get $120 for it. I sold mine for $175, but it had a rev. 3 VGA silencer on it and came with all the games and cables.
 
The 6600GT isn't a bad upgrade. Mine overclocked on water can do sick speeds and gets in the mid 4000 3d05 and I cant remember if it did 10,000 or not in 3d03 since i have been down for a while. If you can overclock it, the 6600GT would be a worthy upgrade. It's pretty fast for a mid range card.

Think you may want to refamiliarize yourself with the meaning of "cost prohibitive"...
An expensive card is cost prohibitive if money is an issue. The 6600GT is relatively non-cost-prohibitive.
