Upgrading motherboard (Intel or AMD)?

Hello,
I am upgrading my motherboard (motherboard, CPU, and RAM). I've been looking around and reading reviews on various motherboards and their compatibles. My main problem is that I don't know which type to choose (Intel or AMD). It seems that they have the same ratings in all ways (reliability, "bang for the buck", pricing, etc.). I have the Radeon 7870 GPU which will work with either type, so that's not much of an issue. Another problem is I am on a very tight budget (thus being a high school student). My aunt has been helping me out but I don't think she would be able to do this, so it will be up to me.

Current PC specs:
Operating System
Windows 8 64-bit

CPU
AMD A10-5700
Trinity 32nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz

Motherboard
LENOVO (<--- THAT'S THE MAIN REASON FOR UPGRADING)

Graphics
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (XFX Pine Group)
CrossFire Disabled

Storage
931GB Seagate ST1000DM 003-1CH162 SATA Disk Device (SATA)

Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GHA2N SATA CdRom Device

Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

Thank you for the time you put for reading this. And also from the information above please do recommend highly needed change/upgrade.

You can do your upgrade centered around a Gigabyte 990fxa-UD3. Very nice board it is. I have 2 of them. and love em.
