Hi guys,

I was looking for a bigger LCD to replace my Samsung 206BW and I ended up getting the Dell G2410. After calibrating it with a spyder2pro and starting to work in Photoshop I noticed that the viewing angles were absolute crap. I had thought that another TN panel would be ok as long as I looked at it straight on, but with this monitor even moving my head down 5cm causes the top half to go darker and pink. If I view the top straight on the bottom is green/too bright. You should have seen me trying to figure out why there was a pink->white gradient in Photoshop before I realized what was happening.

Anyways, I'm definitely done with TN panels. I saw the thread about the U2410 and the LP2475w so I looked them up.. they both look like great monitors (leaning towards the LP2475w). My only issue is that I'll be using the monitor to play games, and while I'm not worried about the response time, I am worried about the issues associated with having a wide gamut monitor. I know there are ways to watch movies with WMP with a profile, Firefox has a color management plugin, and Windows 7 displays most things properly, but what about games? Am I out of luck as far as games go, and if so what non-WG monitor would you guys recommend?

Thanks

Irrelevant as in "having accurate in color games isn't necessary"? If that's what you mean I'd rather it didn't look oversaturated.. but then again the two monitors have an sRGB mode that would probably be good enough for games.

Any other monitors out there in a similar price range I should look at?

Not in similar price range because it's cheaper and it's 23", but NEC EA231WMi is standard gamut.

Another recommendation for the EA231WMi. Only around $300 and it's an IPS panel (the best type). I can view mine from top and it's still viewable (readable is another question, but my point is the colors are still accurate).

I haven't played any games on it yet other than Return to Castle Wolfenstein at around 20-30 fps (blame the crappy Intel GMA 3100 - that is a decade old game). At that frame rate I do not notice any ghosting. I did play other games, including RTCW at 125 fps (with vsync + triple buffering) on my 24" iMac which had an H-IPS panel (so around the same response time) without any ghosting. MW2 as well.
