Upgrading GTX570: Suggestions?

There's really only two reasons I even want to upgrade:

(1) 3 monitors + GTX 570 + Drivers = Headache sometimes, but not much.
(2) Battlefield 3 doesn't run to my standards on my GTX570. I haven't really even played BF3 much for this reason, but I'd really like to be able to enjoy it.

That in mind, I think I want to go ATI so I don't have the driver issue headache with 3 monitors, and also so I can use Eyefinity.

What's the best upgrade from my 570?

You have not mentioned a budget for the graphics card. and what resolution is your monitor. is it 3 x 1080p or 3 x 1440p

I don't really have a budget just want the best. $500 is fine with me.

From what I've read (have not used it myself), NV Surround has been greatly improved with Kepler, and you will have no problems using 3 monitors off a single 670/80. I believe they also now have features like the task bar remains on centre screen and better handling of maximizing/locking windows to specific displays.

If you are talking about multiplayer, a single 670/680 or 7950/70 is not enough to max out 3x 1080P, you will need to go SLI/CF for that. Cheapest solution would be two 7950's and OC them hard, but it will be loud/hot/consume more power than SLI 670s. I'd go 670's personally, been very happy with them and Nvidia beats AMD in BF3 performance. You can find good 7950's for $320ish on sale (non-reference) and the 670's are $400, so $620 vs $800 for 2 cards.

Go for the HD 7970 (1 Ghz) cards. Gigabyte HD 7970 Windforce, Sapphire HD 7970 OC Dual X are two good options. They are fantastic cards with good overclocking and excellent cooling.

Gigabyte has 3 yr warranty while Sapphire has 2 yr warranty. But there is a difference in PCB. Sapphire HD 7970 OC has 5 (GPU) + 2 (Memory) power phases. I am not so sure of the Gigabyte HD 7970 Windforce. it seems to have only 5 + 1. check the gigabyte HD 7970 OC (GV-R797OC-3GD) pics of card and PCB . look at sapphire HD 7970 OC ((11197-01-40G). more power phases for memory mean it allows excellent memory overclocking.

Also sapphire hd 7970 comes with all required display connectors while Gigabyte hd 7970 seems to have no display connectors at all. You can see that in the image gallery.

7970 gigabyte is probably the best. if your not gonna crossfire
 
Yeah you're gonna need more than one card if you're wanting to game at that high a resolution with very high settings. A single 7970 or GTX680 wont have enough muscle. They'll be able to keep you above 30 fps but for more than that, you'll need a little more.

As for drivers, AMD doesn't have the best track record for multi GPU setups so if you're tired of headaches, might be better to stick with Nvidia. If you can afford $800, a pair of GTX670's would fit the bill.

With catalyst 12.6 whql drivers have improved a lot in stability. OP you could ask HD 7970 users to post their feedback about Catalyst 12.6 performance and stability.

A single HD 7970 is good enough to play the latest games at 3 x 1080p.You just have to play with slightly lower settings in games like BF3.

Personal experience: a single GTX670 is barely enough for BF3 MP 2560x1600, or 4MP, sub-Ultra and no MSAA. The OP is looking to push 6MP, which means to me that he'd need at least 50% more performance than a GTX670, which no overclocking of a single GPU is going to get him- he needs more than one card. Given the micro-stutter issues of CFX on GCN, reported right here on the [H], a pair of Kepler cards is a no-brainer.

yeah BF3 multiplayer is a different story. the OP would have to tweak his settings and find out what gets him 60 fps. maybe high settings with SSAO and motion blur off. that could be a starting place for him to work around the settings.

the OP needs to be clear about what settings he wants to play at and whats his budget.

Okay.

60FPS+ is a must for me.

I don't want to have to tweak settings. I want to max settings and it work.

Budget wise, one GTX680 isn't out of reach. I'm always afraid to go SLI because of micro stutter, etc.

FInally, surround gaming is not all that important to me. For now, single monitor is what I'm looking to improve upon my GTX570. Although, I have a feeling once I experience surround gaming I'll never want to do it any other way...?

I play a lot BF3 with a single 670 (factory OC) at 1920x1200, everything in game is maxed (Ultra, 4X MSAA, FXAA High, 16X AF, AO, adaptive vsync in NV drivers) and I get drops in the 40-45 fps range sometimes depending on the map/action (usually in 64 player servers with lots of stuff blowing up). It's still fully playable and doesn't hinder me, but if you truly do not want to drop below 60fps you will need more than a single card even at 1200p.

If you are playing at 1080p and OC the 680 you will probably not get very many drops below 60fps. I

MP are not linear. 6mp is not 50% more than 4. Do the math.
 
gtx 670. best performance for the money. always go for newer architecture. i recommend the top asus OC'd one
