Upgrading from ti4600

I want to upgrade from my ti4600. Back when I purchased it Nvidia was the only consideration, but it seems things have changed since then. What would be my best choice for an upgrade trying to keep it under $300?

My current specs are:
P4 2.4@3.0 with HT
Abit IC7-MAX
512MB PC3500
Gainward ti4600

Is one 9800 Pro better than another? Who makes the best version of this card?

The ATi one is probably better just because they make it themselves. However, Sapphire uses ATi reference boards when making theirs, and they make a good amount of ATi-branded boards too I think.

So go Sapphire and save the money for future vid cards.

wait till the R420/NV40 come out

When is that supposed to be? My biggest concern right now is being able to play UT2004 and Far Cry.

Have you tried either game? They both work beautifully for me...

yeah dont get to impatient and give up on that ole G4Ti card. if the NV40/Ati420 will be on shelves by this summer youl kick yourself for getting a card now :)

I would say wait. Any game now plays just fine with a ti4600. Gettig a GPU now is probably the worst time to get one. Either wait until the new cards come out and get the current cards like the 9800Pro at a discount, or get the new technology.

I've seen Radeon 9800Pro's on the shelf at Comp USA for $249.99.

Even so, I still agree that now is not the time to buy. I've had to stop my self from doing that several times.
