Upgrading from ProMedia 2.1

Hey guys. I've had my Promedia 2.1 for over a couple years now and I am looking for an upgrade. I was looking through the forums and looking at everyone's setups and insights but I still can't really decide what I should go for.

I have my eyes set on a pair of M-Audio AV 40s but the question I have to people who have heard of the Promedias and the AV 40s, would this be a noticeable upgrade? Is there a big difference in sound quality wise from the Promedia 2.1 to the M-Audio AV 40. The Promedia has a independant sub while the AV 40s are built in. Are both on par bass wise as well?

Any insight or suggestions for other speakers are welcome as well. It's for my computer and I do watch movies and listen to music a lot on it.
 
i literally just went to bestbuy about an hour ago
and they sound fantastic, i talked to 1 of the guys there that owns a pair and he says that he loves them.
i cranked thos babies all the way up and they dont get distorted at all..
the bass is pretty big on those small speakers but they pack a mean punch..
there very clear and detaild and im sold on them (buying a pair for christmas)
f*** spending 300-400 bux on stereo receivers/speakers ect...
these are perfect for the 100-200 range

very very good speakers
would recommend to any1
 
well they are 2 different speakers.The 40AV's are studio monitors they don't have a sub so don't expect low end. the promedias are 2.1 multimedia speakers with a subwoofer so you will get alot more deep bass. The 40AV's will be more accurate highs and mids. It does have bass and bass boost to help with low end.
 
No, he will not be getting the very low end and there will not be chest rumbling bass, however, the m-40s are incredibly well balanced for what they are. You can't have everything on a small budget. Also, the 85Hz listed as their lower limit is not a hard cutoff.

Do note that you can add a subwoofer as your budget and needs allow.
 
Thanks for the input :) I also just noticed the Energy Take 5 Speakers w/ Panasonic Sub Deal on Newegg. Everything for 199.99. Anyone have any info on the Take 5 Speakers? I'm looking to listen to music as well as play games and watch movies on them so maybe I should go with a 5.1?
