Upgrading from my g5

Hi, the first mouse i've ever own for gaming was a VX revolution. my hands aren't big at all and thus i use a claw grip .

Then i decided that i need a wired gaming mouse, so i switched to a g5.

it was uncomfortable at first because it was too big compare to my VX revolution. however, ive gotten use to it after a week or two. but everytime, during the past couple years, if go back to my VX for a day, the next day i have to get use to my g5 again(only need a couple of hrs tho). i guess i was meant to use smaller mouse, but i chose less lag over comfort.

im thinking of replacing my g5, and i have been looking at G9, G9X, and razer imperator and some other razer mouses.

i know that G9 is small and is prob awesome for my claw griping, but ive heard a few issue about rly hard to click down the scrollwheel(middlebutton), idk if g9x is the same. is this all true? MIddle mouse is pretty essential to my gaming since i have been using it for years.

i have looked at the imperator, it is much like my vx, but i have no clue about the size of it compared to my vx or g5.

please post your opinions :)if you have any other suggestion besides the mice i've posted above, please do so

The g9x and other avago 9500 mice have non disable positive acceleration as pointed out by other forum user. Until a firmware update for it is released, the mouse is unless for gaming.

The hard-to-press scroll wheel you talked about is present on every current logitech gaming mouse except for the mx518.

As for the imperator , Ive actually bought one and returned it because I didn't find it to be very ergonomical to use, due to the bad placement of the bulge on the right side. I had to consistently re-adjust my grip to get comfortable.

I recommend you taking a look at the deathadder, imo it has the best shape out of all razer mouses.

Do you have proof? I have a g500 which uses the same avago 9500, and i notice no acceleration, and it's off.

You dont really need to spend more money on buying a mouse when g5 does the job. I been using mine for 4 years and never thought about replacing it.

While I initially found the G9's scroll wheel hard to press, I directly compared it with my G5 tonight and the difference really isn't that massive...the G9's wheel might require slightly more force to depress, but it's not huge. I wish I had a way to measure the force required for each mouse in a way that would be useful; it would be interesting to see how they compared. Like redd 1 said though, both are harder to click than the MX518. If you're OK with the G9's wheel (which already requires a firm press), you should be OK with the G9 and it'll give you the compact shape you desire. I'm not sure if the wheel changed any with the G9x, but I haven't read anything about it on this forum (unlike the G5 v.2 which some found to have an easier-to-click scroll wheel than the first G5).

IMHO the Imperator is your best option. I've been using it a couple weeks now and I'm pretty happy with it. See my thread.........OH and the scroll wheel is easy to press.

Also I HIGHLY recommend you get a Razer Destructor gamepad. While its a little on the expensive side it has been the best gamepad I've ever owned and I've been through a lot of gaming pads. The last one being a fUnc Archtype which is "supposedly" a great mouse pad. It was for less than a year. :\ I haven't checked but its possible Razer uses the same material in one of its smaller pads if the Destructor is more than you want to spend on a pad. They've released some new pads since I bought mine.

i have 3 gaming mice sitting here right now. g5, deathadder and mx518se. im liking the deathadder More then the g5. i did not use the mx518se. still brand new in package. will prolly sell off

g5 is a rly good mouse, but the reason i want to change is because i rather have a more comfortable one taht is suitable for me more,
the vx revolution was rly good, but it was wireless, i want a wired

Well, I have a few questions.
1. Does brand loyalty matter to you? If not, check out the G9 at your local Best Buy or Micro Center, it's a smaller profile mouse than the Mx518/G5/G500 shape, and has a much more advanced sensor than the original G5 did.
2. Are you looking for a more of a 'ball' like mouse, or just a low profile mouse?
Razer makes a huge amount of low profile mouse (Lachesis, Copperhead, Salmosa, more...) but they are more long than they are stout. Try one out to see if you like it or not.

Guys can you please read the OP before replying with "G5 is good keep it"?
He's uncomfortable using the G5 and wants a smaller mouse, so post to that topic, not as to keep an uncomfortable mouse. :\

I say check out the G9 (w/precision grip). I was initially going to suggest the Imperator too, but after checking out the specs it's barely smaller than the DeathAdder...and I don't consider the DeathAdder to be a small mouse. Certainly nowhere nearly as small as the VX Revolution.

The G9 might not be tiny itself, but it is much flatter than the G5 or DeathAdder. I've even heard of one person using it without either grip attached to it. I tried it myself, and it's definitely small that way but I didn't find it very comfortable and the thumb buttons weren't as easy to use.

I switched from the g5 to the g9 and haven't looked back. Very happy with it paired up with the "precision" grip. It's a bit shorter than the g5, so if you have very large hands you may not prefer it over its longer predecessor. I like the "claw" grip style myself so its better for me. Of course when it comes to mice, its all about personal preference and what fits your hand the best.

i've alrdy mentioned that i have a small hand and i use clawgrip, mx518 is the same as g5

any opinions on RAZER LACHESIS guys? for claw grip? any flaw?

I couldn't get used to the shape and found the side buttons extremely hard to use. YMMV but for me the G9 was worlds better.

Listen to this guy, he knows what he's talking about. The G9 is a very comfortable mouse for claw grip.

But it also has the stiffer middle mouse button. That bugs me too and it's why I never used the G9 for long. Are you using the orange/silver G5 version 1 or the blue G5 version 2? I can tell you the blue G5 v2 works quite a bit better. It's not as stiff to press down.

The mx518 is very similar in shape to your uncomfortable G5 but it's not exact. The middle mouse button is also much easier to manipulate. It might be worth trying get one, just to give it a try.

The Logitech G3 is also something you might want to look into. It is a smaller, ambidextrous gaming mouse that uses the same laser sensor as the original G5. I have one and it's not half bad with a claw grip. PM me with any questions you may have about it.

Also remember the Razer Diamondback and Copperhead. Both can be used with the claw grip quite well but the shape is drastically different. It will take some getting used to.

SteelSeries recently released the Xai and Kinzu mice. They are both a bit smaller.

how stiff is the stiffness on hte g9?
i remmber when i got the g5, i thought it was very hard to press down middle button compared to vx revolution, but i soon adjusted to it and it is easy for me now.

i have the blue version of g5, dose its middle button require same strengh to press down as the g9 or is g9 even more worse than the g5 i have?

The wireless ver. of the G5 (was it the G9?) was horrrrrible on battery life for me, as it used its own LI-ION carts for power. I went rigth back with the G5, despite the cord, it still can't be beat.

I found the mmb much stiffer on the G9 than the G5v2. Some people have told me that it will loosen up over time but I didn't want to wait that long for a functional mouse.
