Im going to be upgrading from a GF2 to a 9800Pro... How am I suppose to clean and prepare the computer for the Ati card?

Does ati conflict with the nforce2 chipset as well? Its a fic au13 mobo Amd 2600+ throughbred.. blah blah..:D

I would format just for the best performance. And as far as your Nforce messing with the Ati, it's actually funny because it plays better on most occasions with Ati than Nvidia gfx cards. Good luck! Make sure you post back with your experience. That's one hell of a jump.

you can put your case in the dishwasher to get it really clean;)
I dust out my computer once a month I live in a dusty area. just use a driver cleaner and put it in if you dont feel like reformating

Okay.. thanks for the info.. Do those driver cleaners work good enough? I formatted less than 6 months ago and well... dont really want to go through that process again.

I physically clean my case often enough.. a dishwasher might get my fans sparkling clean inside and out tho :D

I have used those driver cleaners
driver cleaner 2 works pretty good I was playing between a 5900xt and a 9800pro too see which one I liked better of course I went with the pro but I used driver cleaner and it worked fine my 3dmark03 were well within range of similiar systems so thats how I figured it worked
scored 5815 5900xt
5990 9800pro
9800pro had better picture quality too

I dont think this would validate a new thread.. so im putting it here.

I got my 9800 pro yesterday.. and the benchmarks have been kinda dissapointing.
3dMark01 ~13000
3dMark03 ~5000

Battlefield: Secret Weapons only runs at about 80fps. I want more :D.

Is this a result of the remaining nvidia stuff? I have intstalled the newest ati drivers, corrected the speed of the card by 5mhz, updated the chipset drivers, and yelled at the box.

According to future mark my scores should be a bit better.
AMD 2600+ Throughbred @ stock (cant oc heat issues)
Fic Au13 Nforce2 mobo
512 DDR PC2700 (I think)
Sapphire 9800Pro 128mb

(Yeah this system is very similar to my other computer except I have a ti4200)

01 seems low, but 03 seems on par. I think that RAM might be holding you back a bit, and it's too bad you can't overclock, cause surely that would increase your score quite a bit.

What type of things could effect DX8 performance? Ill install Call of Duty tomorrow and see how that runs (pretty sure thats dx9)
I know games that run on DX8 eg BF1942 is running at about the same framerates as my ti4200 :(

Bump..
I still dont understand why the performance is so similar to my gf4 (thats a really bad thing and the gf4 is in my other 2600+). It seems to have the most trouble with dx8 games..

I am wondering if its my settings.. my drivers... or overall computer...

Settings.. I have them mostly default. 8x agp fast writes... aa/af set to 2 and 2 (I think)

Drivers Catalyst 4.3.. chipset newest from nvidia..

Computer.. I figured out my multiplyer is unlocked so set it at 2700+. Still trying to avoid the format, what I did was uninstall, reboot, install driver cleaner, put in card, install new drivers.

Ooh.. What about Halo?
Well I just know my 2003 scores are about normal.
And my 2001 scores are pathetech.

Oh yeah.. do the Sapphire 9800 pros with bga ram have a temperature probe of any sort in it? If it does where do I find it?

Are you running both of those benches at default resolutions, no AA/AF?

If bumping the vid card up made that little difference, the only other thing I can assume is that your ram is holding you back. But still, it should be higher than that.

Yeah.. those benchmarks were taken at the default resolutions although I might have left the AA/AF on default when I did those benchmarks last.

I did get a performace boost going from the geforce2 to the 9800 bf went from about 30->80 fps but im comparing it to my other card and I know that 9800 should be much better than a geforce 4 ti4200.

Hrmm ram.. the ratio thing is 5:4 right now I think its 2100 or 2700 DDR in that computer the processor is a 2600+ throughbred with the default fsb at 333. So it might be my inferior ram I guess

Is AGP Texture Acceleration Enabled?

To Check:
Click Start > Run > Type "dxdiag" without the quotes. Soon as the app loads, click the Display Tab. If the AGP Texture Acceleration is greyed out, install motherboard Chipset Drivers and Reinstall DirectX.

Hope that helps.:)

i did the same jump but a whole system(1ghz amd 512 ram/shit hdd) to whats in the sig.. its immaculate

Okay..
you need to set AA and AF to app preference if you havent done so already! - Done

Is AGP Texture Acceleration Enabled? - Yes

Processor - Overclock to 2700+ equivalent through multiplyer change. FSB oc unstable slow ram, 2100 oc to 333fsb speeds.

My score ran it three times.. saved it once.

Based on your 3D scores, it doesn't look like the graphics card is the problem. You have AGP acceleration working and the card's giving numbers at what it's supposed to.

What are your RAM timings? 2-2-2-11 or 2-2-2-12 I hope. I think RAM is your system bottleneck.

Also, if you have 5:4 or 3:2 ratio, that explains why you're getting such crappy system performance. Huge drawback to anything not 1:1.

Oh its the attack of the inferior DDR.

According to CPUz
frequency 133.6MHz
fsb dram 5:4
cas#2.0 clocks
ras to cas 3 clocks
ras# 3 clocks
cycle 6 clocks

Any tweaking or overclocking I can do to improve it?

Oh yeah 3dmark 03 score http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2289121

Compared the 2600+ barton the cpu score is lower by about 100 guess the cache makes a difference.
