Do you guys think it's worth it? Or should I wait and get a 4870?

thx, Ali

Well I just went from an 8800GT to a 4850 and I can honestly say I regret it. I got caught up at the last minute by that Bestbuy deal for 25% off and I just went for it. I'm probably going to return it as nothing in my experiences so far has led me to believe that it's a significant improvement over the 8800GT and in some cases it seems to be a step backward. The shittiness of the CCC compared to the NV control panel alone is reason enough to make me want to go back.

From a 3870 it should be a nice improvement.

ATI's CCC is pretty poor but NV's new control panel is pretty crappy too. I wish they'd both remake their control panels into something better.

I just did that very "upgrade". Same frame rate but now all settings on high. WOOT, worth it to me.

I went 3870 CF > 4850 CF with the BB deal and offed my 3870s making it a ~150 dollar set up that literally doubled my cod4 fps in some instances. I say it's a win.

I would save up the extra $100 and get a 4870, they look like they are going to be very, very good.

When upgrading video cards. No point in moving from your current video card. If it can play 90% of the games at high on native res of your monitor with min of 20ish fps and avg of high than 50ish fps.

Uh maybe for you. I could never stand average 50 fps. 20 minimum? Get out of here. Lower than 60 ever and it's time for an upgrade or lower some settings for me.

Put them in Hybrid CF. I'm hoping the 3870 and the 4870x2 play nice on this P45 chipset.

Iam "upgrading" from 3870 to 4850, can post some impressions if needed tomorrow. Not waiting a miracle really, just got too good money out of 3870 that jumping to a 4850 with less than 100$ seems like a ok move.

Might want to wait a few years before you buy AOC or Crysis.

yah, I don't have too much money but don't want COD4 dropping below 40FPS @ 1680x1050 everything maxed out

thx, Ali
