I am currently using a 2.5 year old 5770. I am looking to upgrade to something newer. I dont really care if it is AMD or Nvidia. I would really like to spend no more than 175. Any suggestions would be great.

hmmm for roughly $175.. the best you can get is probably either a HD6870 or GTX560
 
always list the rest of your specs in detail including resolution and exact power supply when starting a thread like this.

If you are strictly on a USD 175 budget get the HIS Iceq HD 6870 for USD 170 after rebate

But I suggest you spend a little bit more and get the MSI HD 7850 OC for USD 210 after rebate.

this card can easily overclock to 1.2 Ghz and give you GTX 580 perf
 
Thanks for pointing to that comparison on anandtech. very clearly shows the differences between cards. The 7850 looks like a nice card.

The overclocking headroom on the HD 7850 is much more than HD 6950. HD 7800 architecture is superior when compared to HD 6900 in terms of DX11 tesselation and compute performance . Civilization V is a good example of what the compute performance does . HD 7850 at stock is 40% faster at 1200p.

In DX11 games HD 7850 is faster than HD 6950. HD 7850 perf scales very well with overclocking.
