I am considering an HP nc8230 notebook, but the vendor only offers the WXGA LCD instead of the WSXGA+ LCD that I want.

Is this something I can simply swap myself? Are there likely to be any differences in mounting, connections, bios, or drivers? I've seen a thread where someone swapped an XGA to an SXGA+ in a Dell, he didn't really say any details, but implied it was easy. Is it likely the same with the HP?
 
The thing with the dell 600m/d600 notebooks is that the notebook supports both screens and the logic board is set up for it. The people that have done the swap were swaping the lcd for the better lcd that dell offers. Depending on the interface the lcd uses on the hp it may be possible but don't bet on it. Pretty much you are just asking for trouble.
 
Most Laptop video boards are geared only for specific panels. If your notebook is not sold with a WSXGA+ Screen, you CAN'T Upgrade it post purchase.
 
I guess I should have mentioned that. The HP nc8230 that I'm asking about is indeed offered from HP with the WSXGA+ screen, with the same video chip even. The vendor I mentioned is a discount retailer.

Thus, this is exactly the same situation as the Dell upgrade only it's not Dell. As far as I can tell, the make it the "only" difference.
 
You can check hp's partsurfer to make sure they don't use 2 different logic boards but they prob both use the same one. The thing is why not just order it from somewhere elce? By the time you buy another screen which will kill hp's warranty you could have just got the thing how you want it to begin with.
 
You should be able to just swap them easily, but it'd be better to get one with the screen to begin with since your looking at dropping several hundred bucks for the better screen.
 
Yeah, I figured it'd be prohibitive too. However, I did look at the HP partsurfer website and HP lists the WSXGA+ panel at a curiously low $113.00. So that changed the equation a bit.
