Upgrading AMD cards and drivers?

I'm currently running the 11.10 hotfix drivers with my crossfired 4870's. I will be replacing them with a single 6970. So I need to unistall the drivers or will the system pick them up?
 
I would absolutely do a complete driver uninstall, even reboot in safe mode and run driver sweeper to clear out all traces of AMD,Then say no to restart when driver sweeper asks, and then shut down, remove your cards and install the 6970, then reinstall the 11.10 driver and you should be good to go.

I've seen too many horror stories of doing what your asking has caused the registry to not update and hinder performance on your newer card.
 
I have seen this happen in my own system:

AMD 5870 > AMD 6970 upgrade.
Take out old card, put in new card......no mystery, same company, right?

Turn on system......"No hardware recognized"......:eek:

Reinstall driver, good to go.

I think the above advice is good, I do it everytime i install a new driver update.....PITA but I never have any conflicts.

In your case, I think all I'd do would be to simply plan on reinstalling your currently used drivers and CAPs.:D
