Upgrading a retail computer's CPU

Socket 775 and yes it does appear you could drop a C2D in there. You absolutely can drop a e2180 in there.
 
That system probably won't take any Core 2 based processors, which includes the E2100 series.

The highest CPUs that model supports is the Pentium D 800/900 series.

Only the refresh of the 945 chipset that came out in mid-2006 supports Core 2. That GX520 model is older than that.

The latest BIOS for the GX520 came out almost 4 months before Core 2 was released. That system almost certainly can not support the E2100 series (Core 2-based) or any other Core 2 CPUs.
 
Yeah I was looking at 945G so I think you are totally right and I was mistaken. Poor guy. Limited options
