Hello all, I doubt anybody remembers me, but I used to be a member back in the day, during the beginnings of [H].....

well anyways, I'm currently trying to upgrade my computer, but am not really looking to spend alot of money, I was hoping to just upgrade motherboard and CPU if possible.... Being as my main hobby is quite a bit more expensive (drag racing)....

I just recently purchased a 300 gig 7200 rpm HD to add to my current 60 gig, and 40 gig...
I also purchased a fairly inexpensive off brand video card, a norwood micro ati 9550 with 256mb onboard.... well the thing is I currently have an abit kt7-a raid MB with a 1.4 ghz amd processor, and 1.5 gb of PC133 SDRAM

my dillema is that most new mb's seem to only use DDR ram.. does anybody know of any MB that accepts my memory, but will allow for a better processor? TIA

short answer... no.

Why don't you give us a budget and maybe we can help you a little better.

as far as budgets go, I'm bad at that, since I usually go over any budget I set anyways..

so essentially though, I would at minimum need a new motherboard, processor, and memory( is Sdram really extinct in any new systems?).... everything else should be transferable...

yes SD ram has been out of mainstream for quite some time now. We're already into the second year of DDR2 being fairly mainstream.

Here's what I'd recommend.

Cosair Value Select 2 x 512mb

If you really must stick with AGP you'll have to go with an NF3 instead of NF4.

Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 nForce3

AMD Athlon 64 3000+

Total: $289.98

Personally with my next upgrade I'll definitely be switching to PCI-Express. It's just not worth it to buy brand new outdated hardware.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
