I am looking to buy my brother upgrades for his computer in the coming weeks. Looking for some input as to what are the best options.

Current Specs:
Gigabyte 790X AM3 MB
4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 1600
AMD PII 550 BE (At stock/No Unlock)
XFX ATI HD 4770
Rosewill 530W PSU
WD Black 640GB HDD
Windows 7 64-bit
19 inch 1280x1024 Monitor

Looking at the specs I think the weakest link at the moment is the 19 monitor. From that I was considering getting him a larger monitor (1920x1080) and figuring out what kind of a graphics card would have to accompany that. I was thinking anything from a 6850 to a GTX 560 at the moment. He plays Global Agenda, BF: BC2, and an assortment of MMORPGs (Rift, Final Fantasy, DCU). I think he enjoys BC2 a lot, so I could see him getting BF3 when it is released. That is why I think I would like to get him a higher end card like a GTX 560, so he could take advantage of higher settings. With all this I think the budget would be around $400.

I do plan on at least unlocking his 550 BE to a quad core and overclocking it for possible too.

A bit pricey yes, but I would be getting my 19 inch monitor and 4770 back (He always takes hand me downs though I do not see myself touching my current computer for at least a year) . I was planning on getting a bigger monitor and a better vga for my secondary computer. Instead of doing that I can put that money towards getting him nicer stuff at least.

heh.. 1st upgrade I would do is the PSU.. If you gurry the cx600 for like 35 shipped after rebate from newegg is a good deal, but I wouldnt trust that rosewill you have now for shit.

PSU has no problems thus far to be honest. Rather not waste money on that atm anyway.

ok. have it your way. Upgrade the monitor & nothing else then until your ready to replace the PSU.. That way if it goes it doesn't take out any new components.

I am just saying I would rather not at this point. If end up getting a GTX 560 or 6950 I will probably though. I will say my friend has a 955/GTX 480 running off a Rosewill 600W, since October and there has been no issues thus far.

And crack whores all across the world manage to shoot up & still have healthy baby's sometimes too.. Doesn't mean I would pass the syringe to my wife while she was pregnant..

Too true. Well let me ask you this. Do you think the GTX 560 level card is worth it for that resolution? If so I will bite on that 600W Corsair right now.

at 1920x1080 yes indeed.. Will play most everything well. Wont be maxing out on some of the highest end titles, but should be enough for most people to be happy with.. Especially if upgrading from a 4770 & a 1280x1024 monitor.

Ok I will go for that then. Any opinions on that Galaxy GTX 560 going for $200 after MIR on the Tiger deals?

I love AMD and the 6900 series as I owned a XFX 6950 for a brief amount of time. I can't say I have ever heard anything good about HIS when it comes to RMA issues is all.

Do you think 10% off with ebillme makes that GTX 560 any better @ $180 shipped?

180 shipped isnt bad for a 560, but I wouldn't trust galaxy any more then I would HIS.. Is the budget flexable at all (452 shipped for a acer 23" the cx600 & an xfx 6950 from newegg & then 40 back in MIR)

Can't say I have heard anything bad about Galaxy. I guess I am a bit more inclined to them due to their presence on the forum here. I figured it wouldn't be hard to get a hold of them for support if needed.

What XFX 6950 and Acer monitor too? Budget is flexible I guess, though I did just get that Corsair PSU due to the deal ending. I have no problem waiting out a few weeks for any deals that come by. I did miss a MSI 6950 deal earlier this week for $200.

I can get this XFX 6950 for $200 after MIR and cashback. Have to look some reviews up if possible haven't seen any, since it is non-reference.
