I am under the task of upgrading some PCs that we use at work for testing.

Currently we are running P4 2.6GHz PCs with 2GB of Ram. Most of what we test are multi-threaded VB scripts, the PCs are running XP Pro.

We need to upgrade, and I was wondering what to upgrade to for better performance, as we want to expand our capabilities, without adding more PCs.

I was looking at possible adding a dual core, dual xeon setup; or maybe just a single dual core setup. Quad core would be possible, but its a bit expensive at the moment.

We decided to upgrade the systems, which are 4U rack mount cases, instead of trying to order new PCs, as it is much cheaper.

So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
