So im thinking of taking my newly acquired X2 3800, ASrocks SLI32 eSATA2 board, 2gb DDR, and 7900GS and selling it as a complete system on my shelves. But I also know the average user won't buy it, and the gamer wont either even the broke one lol. So whats a good low cost way to make the graphics look like something someone wants lol. What would yall recomend reasonably priced for an x2 3800 CPU lol

I would not even bother with getting a new gpu considering a 3800 X2 does not even meet the minimum requirements to play many newer games anyway.

lol like 1% of the games tops.
that cpu is below min req for nearly every big game made in the last 1-2 years. and even the ones where it technically passes min req, its still too slow to push any decent card and in some cases too slow to provide acceptable framerates in general. I got rid of an even faster 5000 X2 nearly 3 years ago because it limited any decent gpu at that time. there is no point in wasting money for a faster gpu than that 7900 with an old cpu like that.

Well it turns out im not paying a single red cent. A guy called and needs a pair of DDR400 512mb Sticks and 2 80gb IDE Hard Drives, and in exchange he is giving me a 9800GTX+ lol.

I hope nobody is stupid enough to buy that pc thinking the 9800gtx+ will let them play all newer games. they are in for a reality check in the form of crappy framerates in most newer games. oh well at least they will learn what the term bottleneck means...

depends really does depend

what do you mean? you said you wanted to sell that pc but I am saying you should not be calling it a gaming pc by any means just because it has a decent gpu in it. somebody that's ignorant about computers will have no clue why many newer games will not be playable.

its called bussiness and gaming PC is any PC that can play video games, it is not required they can max settings as long as a PC advertised as gaming can maintain 30FPS in the majority at the lowest settings it can be called a gaming PC.

it has nothing to do with maxing settings. that cpu is a pos for modern games and as I have already said does NOT meet minimum requirements to play many newer games. taking advantage of someone that does not know that just shows lack of character.

no it shows bussiness sense, also most newer games state Athlon X2 or Core2 Duo or greater. This qualifies as an Athlon X2 does it not?

well call it whatever you want to help yourself sleep at night. I have more values and character than to mislead someone just to make a sale.

and do you even look at requirements for newer games? most do not just generally say Athlon X2 or Core 2 duo. they usually state the exact speed or model needed just to run he game. there are about 15-20 games where an 3800 X2 does NOT meet minimum requirements. there are several games where it technically does meet the very minimum but in reality does not deliver playable performance.

No, a 3800+ X2 939 will not be playing any modern or semi-modern games. Even calling it a "business machine" would be a lie as it would struggle to run many pro-grade business apps.

My old 3800+ X2 struggled with a GTS250 to play FEAR 2 at decent frame rates, let alone games from 2010 and 2011. No, that won't be getting 30fps in any game, you will be lucky to get 20fps out of that system.

Also, cannondale06 is correct, that CPU does not meet the minimum requirements for many games. Most games require a 2.4GHz C2D or AMD equivalent. That CPU is about the equivalent to a C2D running at 1.6GHz at best.

Not only will the GPU be horribly bottlenecked, but the CPU will not be able to drive the game properly either.

No, it does not. Athlon X2 normally means AM2+ or AM3 class, not socket 939 X2's from 6 years ago.

That guy is getting ripped off and you know it. Way to prey on the ignorant. You should at least give him another $20-30 with those parts for that GPU. Not very honest imo.

That system is worth $80, tops. No way anyone with brains would pay more than that for such an old system (2005 mid-range build). Even if you uped the graphics to a 9800GTX+, maybe $100-110 total. There is just no way you can call that a "gaming machine" and even to call it a business machine would be stretching it.

I just re-worked a very similar system with the same components, different mobo, and it struggled with an HD4850 to play titles from 2008 and 2009 at 30fps. No game in the last two years would even begin to run at a fun or enjoyable refresh rate. You need to call the system a "decent 2005 build" that can play older titles moderately. Doing anything otherwise would be not be respectful of your customer(s) on your part.

I disagree wholeheartidly.

Let me give you an example, 80 dollars is my cost in labor just labor for it. I have sevral used systems and regurally sell them here is an example of 5 computers and there prices sold within the last 2 weeks.

AMD Athlon XP 2100

Windows XP Home
Geforce4 MX440
Sold $240

Intel Pentium4 2.8C
120gb Hard Drive
1gb DDR400
Windows XP Home
i865 Graphics
Sold $260

AMD Sempron 3400
200gb Hard Drive

Intel PentiumD 820
320gb Hard Drive
2gb DDR2 667
Windows XP Pro
Radeon x300
Sold $390

These where bought by customers off my shelves as total systems including a used CRT monitor 12x10 17in, Mouse, Keyboard, USB Speakers. I'm in this to make money, if I sell these kind of systems for raw cost I loose money, labor = money, and people will buy these machines. I sold another system today a brand new build real nice here is what it ran.

AMD Athlon II X4 640
MSI 870-G45
4gb DDR3 1066
Windows 7 Home x64
Geforce GT220
18.5in LCD 1366x768
Mouse + keyboard
USB Speakers

Sold $850

People will buy these machines, I'm in this to make money, If someone is a computer savy person they don't buy prebuilt box's anyway, they go to Fry's, Microcenter or newegg. Why should I offer my labor for free, my parts at cost, and not compete? Trust me the other shop around here has almost identical prices for there used systems.

Those people got totally ripped off, plain and simple.

Honestly though, when you call a system a "gaming rig" that is 6 years old, it is total bullshit. Call it a "2005 gaming machine".

yeah if people want to overpay for your systems then so be it. just dont stick a decent video card with an outdated cpu and try to sell it off as a modern gaming pc. that is completely disingenuous.

well to be excat im going to sell it as a World of Warcraft Machine. Lots of guys keep comming in cause they can't play WoW well since Cata still getting plenty of them.

Um... ya. I feel for your "customers". When I see people trying to sell old crap on CL most of the time they don't know any better, the rest off the time it's people like you.

even WoW has gotten MUCH more cpu intensive over the years. I bet a 3800 X2 would not even crack 25 fps nowadays in Cataclysm.

yep it will, I play cata on my laptop with a Celeron M550 2ghz Single Core CPU, trust me the x2 3800 is faster than that by a long shot, an the graphics are onboard geforce M8200 G, does just fine 1366x768 low settings, pulls 31FPS in 25man raids and 12-19FPS in StormWind, and being that its wow, 30FPS is fine for raiding, and SW is fine at that FPS and thats during peak playing hours.

You don't like people making money? You want everything at wholesale cost and used PC's that have labor put into them to referb them to be what? Free

3.2 Athlon 2 X2, which is about 80% faster than a 3800 X2, getting just 38 fps. so my guess of around 25 fps would be about right at least on that part of the game. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-directx-11-performance,2793-10.html

even back in 2009 a 5000 X2, which is about 30% faster than a 3800 X2, is getting only 32 fps here. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,...nchmarks-with-Phenom-II-and-Core-i5/Practice/

I know very little about WoW but certainly some parts clearly look to be a bit too cpu intensive for a 3800 X2.

Uh 1680x1050 not low res for one, I know that must confuse you, also ultra high settings. Turn them down and guess what you get more than playable, thats how this works.

uh maybe it confuses you that turning down the res is not going to make the game faster when the cpu is the limitation. but yes some of the settings impact the cpu along with the gpu so turning those down would help.

alot of them impact the CPU load. Turning water down for one, Shadows, Sunshafts to off, draw distance, these all assit in lesseing CPU loading actully.

+1 to both of these.

insaneshell, you are being very dishonest with your customers. You are selling Athlon XP and P4 systems like they are new and advertising it as so. They are not.

Complete bull. There is no way that Celeron single core CPU and an 8200M get 30+ fps in WoW.

My netbook is more powerful than that system and I don't get any where near those frame rates.

You are a liar to us and to your customers. I've read your other threads and your operations are shady at best.

I sell them at fair prices compared to similar systems at other shops in my area. The used systems come with a 90 day warranty, new systems with a 1year warranty. Also Don't argue with what my celeron gets, if your using a netbook you most likly have an intel IGP or Nvidia Nano, and both are slower than the 8200, so don't argue there with me. This how a brick and mortar store operates we shouldn't take a loss and sell things below cost, its that simple, find me any brick and mortar that sells used systems for the price you think is fair, and if you can find me one, they will liky be out of bussiness. As for selling them as new, no they are Listed as Referbished, and are sold as such, with a clean Windows install, all updates, Microsoft Secruity Essentials, Acrobat Reader, K-Lite Codec Pack, VLC Media player, and Nero Kwik Media, all guranteed for 90 days by me. This is time and labor intensive, these are not hastily thrown together, they are diagnosed with memtest and seatools, then Windows is installed, then we run Prime95 Stress Test for 2 hours. Then the systems get updates, and software installed. These are done very professionally, and are capable machines that do excatly what they are advertised to do.

I am sorry your opposed to anyone making money, and you want me to sell at a loss, but employee's cost money, the labor cost's money, so why shouldn't I make back my money.

I dont know what he has but an 8sp 8200m is slower than the 16sp Nvidia ION. even integrated junk like the 3200 and 4200 are faster than the 8200m.

I'm not saying you shouldn't make money, but you are being very shady about your dealings and not admitting up front at what you are doing.

You state that these 10 year old machines are modern gaming rigs when that is completely not true. Yeah, I would call that lying. If that's what you do to your customers, I can't very well say that I'm supporting you.

If you were to advertise them as exactly what they are, charge the price, then the customer buys, no problem. But you don't, that's the problem.

Another thing, first you said it was you selling them personally, now you say it's a store? Which is it? Pretty shady info you've given us considering most of it has contracted what you've stated.

Also, my netbook uses an NVIDIA ION and a dual-core atom, both which are faster than your single-core Celeron and 8200M. My ION has 16SP, your 8200M only has 8, and my ION is clocked faster as well. No, your 8200M is not faster, not even close. You state that you get 30+ fps on that thing with WoW, there is no way that is possible. This shows you know little about what you are talking about. Yeah, I am arguing with you because what you say is false and incorrect.

Give my some screen shots with FRAPS running on that system, then I'll believe you. Also, if you can get even close to those fps, then all of your settings must be bottom-of-the-barrel low.

This is your original post, this does not sound like someone who works at or owns a computer retail store. Also, if you do work there, wouldn't your supervisor set the price? If you owned it, wouldn't you know what price to set?

You state that you have warranties and set prices for these systems, and that you are so sure what you are doing, yet you ask us what price to set.

Shady.

no i was asking for video card recomendations also the store is my own, I own and operate it, and people work for me. I get bussiness because one my turn around time is on average 23 computers a day for desktops and 36 for laptops per day with me and 2 employees. That means that I have taken alot of bussiness away from other people because of my turn around rate and the quality of the work done. Also to make things clearer for you, the prices I charge are fair, I did not say those other machines are gaming box's they are advertised as referbished PC's nothing more, nothing less. Also yes bottom of the barrel settings and let me also state a fact for you, dual atom is not faster than an x2 3800. A dual Atom in single threading competes directly with a Pentium4 2.8, or a PentiumD 820 in multithreading, and might I add the X2 3800 benchmarks faster than a PentiumD 840 and closer to a Pentium Dual Core Conroe based CPU. Your Atom is actully inferior, also my 8200-M uses a dedicated 256mb Graphics ram onboard with another 256mb taken from the system, this is faster than an ION that uses only system memory.

no your 8200M is slower than ION. and he was saying his dual core Atom is faster than your single core 550 Celeron which is also true.

Would have been good of you to say this at the beginning.

No, 8200M is much slower than ION, end of story. Look it up.

I'm done with you and this lame thread of fail. Best of luck on your "business."

not unless your ION has dedicated graphics memory otherwise it shares the system ram and this does impact the preformance, that has been proven time and again. But I assume you don't do this as a career and merely state your viewpoint without understanding the base facts thats your choice.

No, the ION is faster. Your 8200M has a max memory bandwidth of about 8GB/s tops, and yeah, your memory is shared as well.
Mine, even though shared, runs at 12.8GB/s, and this only impacts performance if AA is used in larger quantities.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8200M-G.11360.0.html

That shows the ION (9400M) beating your 8200M by 65%. Memory bandwidth isn't everything. 16SP vs 8SP, do the math.

Also, the ION 2, which has dedicated memory, is only 13% faster than the original ION. Dedicated memory isn't everything.

Apparently you need to learn some facts yourself.

Computer retail is the lowest form of a career in computers. You can keep it.

computer repair, and I do know my facts, this is my job. I work with thousands of computer combinations yearly, and likly know a fair bit more than you do about them.

yet you keep claiming your 8200m is faster than the ION 9400m? and if you know more than us then why do you keep starting threads here asking for help or advice?

Edit: Taking my own advice and getting out of this before it gets REALLY dirty.

The thought of trying to run Cataclysm on any of those machines makes me want to vomit. Are you going to give them a new system when they get to the Firelands? Even the fastest system you claim to have sold will choke as soon as you get to any of the new content.

Just give up. This guy has no clue what hes talking about. Read his past threads if you don't believe me, he is like a waterfall of bullshit. Google his "shop" (Phil's PC Texas) and all you will find is a craigslist ad for basic, entry level work. It's written using the same 7th grade level spelling and grammar, so its more than "likly" his.

No Its not in a phone book till they issue new ones as its recently opened, also I ask for yalls advice for a second opinion nothing more, nothing less. Not sure what Craigslist shop you see but I'm afraid your mistaken but that's your own problem. As far as entry level, I'm afraid not, I do solder repair, Server maintenance and repair, I have a contract with Keller Willams with there agents in this area and do there repair work on both personal and company computers. As well as virus removal, windows repair and reinstall, data recovery and backup, system builds and referbs. I'm sorry I'm not a programmer but I have a life, and a wonderful girl, not a keyboard and free porn sites like most computer people.
