Upgraded thermal paste causing heat issues???

Hey guys,
so I swapped out my T6500 to a T9550 in a Dell Studio 1555.

I've swapped quite a few CPUs in Laptops and have always used good paste- it has always dropped temps or lessen the fan spinning. I've always either used AS, Zalman paint one, or in this case- ShinEtsu and I only apply the recommended rice size.

This however, is the first time I'm experiencing a large amount of additional heat.

- CPU's are the same TDP/wattage, and numerous people have done this swap.

- the Heatsink covered the CPU, GPU, and two "chipsets": they originally had thermal pads, I replaced them all with the Shin-etsu

Idea for the cause or problem?

It could be loose fitting. Have you checked, double checked and triple checked the thermal pads and HSF placement? It could also be that there was a bit too much paste? It sounds like you should open it back up again and see what's going on.

if you go from thermal pads to paste gotta make sure the heatsink can reach the chips, as thermal pads are thicker

This.
TIM needs a good amount of pressure, simply touching won't do.
