I went from a 1.8 ghz to 3.06 ghz... 400 mhz to 533 fsb... both socket 478... didn't change anything, cuz there shouldn't need to be a change, right?

bought: cooler master dream iii HSF from svc.com

Anyway, the computer works fine for about 3 mins, then just stops... anybody know why something liket his would happen? :confused:
 
What speed is your ram? At the very least you should clear and reset the bios with more appropiate settings.

definitely sounds like your heatsink isn't installed properly. Did you put thermal compound on the bottom of the heatsink when you installed it? If there was a plastic protective film on the bottom, did you take it off? Is the fan spinning on the heatsink?
 
ram is pc2100 and 2700... giga-byte mobo: GA-8IG

fan was spinning, pretty sure that there wasn't a protective film on it~

how do you clear/reset the bios?

If you don't have the manual, try to download it from gigabyte. Usually theres a jumper on the motherboard you short ( while pc is off) to reset the cmos. Then you put the jumper back to it original location and boot. Pressing delete usually gets you in the bios, now make the adjustments, save and reboot.

Did you use thermal paste?
 
Go into the BIOS (right after you turn the computer on, hit <delete>) and look in the hardware monitor/PC health section. It will tell you what your CPU temps are. Tell us what it says.
 
of course i used thermal paste... when i do go into my bios, i'm pretty sure that it doesn't have temp guage... i guess it's crappy mobo... i will try the rest when i get from work.

with the new hsf it works for roughly 3 mins or so...

with the old one, i got about 30 mins~

both seemed stable, but then just stop to my knowledge...

i do have the latest BIOS (F5) not the the beta one tho.

PSU: antec 350W

i'll have to double check the hsf's to make sure that they were mounted correctly
 
Are you sure that your memory speed is being properly divided? You'll probobly need to run a 5:4 divider, plus up the voltage a little bit to maybe 2.7v because it will still be running at 106mhz not 100mhz.

I am not sure. Will give it a look at tonight.
Sounds kinda technical, I hope i can figure it out~
 
Nevermind about what I said, I just remembered that PC2100 is 133FSB and not 100FSB. So you should be able to run 1:1 just fine. Instead of changing your memory divider, check you timings instead. Set them their maximum (highest latency, 3-4-4-8) settings.
