Hey there folks. I recently upgraded my system with an Athlon64 3500 "clawhammer" processor and MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Now for some reason, my system does this random high pitched squeeling sound. It doesn't happen at any certain time or with any certain programs, but when it does happen it usually lasts about 5-10 minutes. Sometimes when I scroll with my trackball, the squeeling will stop for a split second, then come back on. Now I've read from other "high pitched" threads about this noise being caused by electrical vibration within the power supply. I'm using an Ultra 500watt power supply, here is a link...

I've had this power supply for only 3 months with my older motherboard and processor (AMD 2800+ and MSI K7N2 Delta-L) and there was no noise whatsoever and it has so far been rock solid with no bouncing around with voltages. I would greatly appreciate any input on this matter as it is driving me nuts. Oh, here are the systems current specs...

AMD Athlon64 3500+ retail (clawhammer core)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
1-gig Patriot PC3200 low latency ram
ATi 9800pro 128MB
SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS
WD 80GB SATA HDD
Maxtor 120GB IDE HDD (w/ SATA adapter)
MSI 16x DVD
MSI CD/RW
Ultra X-finity 500watt PS

ok, never heard about that power supply stuff - tho your system is now pushing higher watts/amps thru the power supply.
get some rubber gromits and use them on the psu screws.
double check all fans and make sure they are not making contact with any cables, or sides of the case and are seated properly.
look at your sound card, is it seated properly? are there any cards/drives/cables that could cause interference? move your sound card away from other cards and see if that solves issue as creative cards are very sensitive to things around them.
do you have a live drive connected? if so the cable from it to your card can cause interference too.
is the trackball ps2 or usb? if it is usb - transfer it to the front usb ports (if you have) or move it to another port to see if that fixorz the problem.
do you have the trackball drivers installed? if so remove the sound card drivers & reinstall (as I assume you installed the trackball drivers last) sometimes certain files can be shared and changed by drivers -
best of luck

I've had similar issues except mine goes away when I turn off my monitor...

When I first read this, I thought that you might have an issue with your monitor. Have you really checked to see where the sound is coming from? If your ears aren't really sensitive, get someone who does have sensitive hearing to find it for you. Also, when you hear it again, cut the power to your monitor. If it is the monitor, I don't know what you can do without opening up the monitor and trying to tweak it, or just going out and spending a little cash on a new monitor.
