and now the monitor shows nothing...i've tried installing a new OS for it but can't see anything...is there something i can do to bring the monitor back on? i've checked everything and it is all still plugged in properly...any info is greatly appreciated..

I know this may sound simple and forgive me if you have already tried it but have you tried the fnc F7 command. The thinkpads of old are notorious for coming up via the external video port. I wonder if this is the case here. Im pretty sure it still is function F7 to toggle the display settings.

yeah i did try that and still nothing....that was the suggestion from many and it just beeps nothing comes up on the screen....just don't know why..worked a week ago...now nothing...but thanks for your suggestion!

Look at the technical manual for it, the "just beeps" are a lot more then that. I don't know for sure on the 390E but on all the thinkpads i have worked on they have a specific sequence of beeps that translates into specific errors. Should give you something to go look at :)
