After the past 6 months of playing cs source on my gf4ti4200 i decided to upgrade to the 6800GT. I went from running like 800x600 at low everything to 1240x1024 with maxed everything its simply stunning. I cant wait to put farcry in when i get home from school cause I got it for free but my gpu couldnt run it b4. I 3dmark2005'd at like 4025 does that sound about right for this card and the system in the sig?

Did you buy the 128mb or the 256mb version of the V9999GT? Because if you bought the 128mb version you not only get less ram but its not DDR3 it's regular DDR. I can't belive nVIDIA allows ASUS to still label the 128mb version as a 6800GT as it seems kinda misleading to me. I hate when companies try to prey on the uninformed. If you get the 128 version just return it and get the Leadtek, it's only like $290 right now on the egg.

if its a 6800gt and only does 4025 it seems a tadddd low. i mean i pretty much have the same system as you and my card is oc'd and my cpu is oc'd but i dont think it attributes to my score being 5700+ while yours is about at 4k. like the guy above me said you might ahve the 6800nu

The 128mb version ASUS sells is not an nu. It's a have all 16 pipes open the only difference is the DDR memory. Asus is just trying to save some money and rip people of in the process.

Your 3dmark05 score is kinda low, but that might be due to your CPU bottleneck.

yeah i recognize that but I should not be tricked into buying a graphics card because the sales representative tells me it has 128 mb of DDR3 at 1000 mhz when it really only has DDR at 700mhz. Anyone have any ideas on how I can go about avoiding the 15% or more restocking fee they say they charge. BTW when i get back from school i will have the system back up to around 2.3-2.4 ghz on watercooling would it still have a cpu bottleneck ?

So I guess there are two different V9999GTs, a 128MB DDR at 700Mhz and a 256MB DDR3 at 1,000Mhz.

are you sure that 128meg ddr asus card has all 16 pipes enabled?

i was sure that they released a 6800nu as a GT a while back...

check with rivatuner?

edit: newegg lists the 128meg version as having 16 pipes enabled, but the PCB of the card even looks like a 6800nu

so basically it's an unlocked 6800nu?

After the shit they pulled labeling this card as a 6800GT i'll never buy an asus product

you really have to be carefull with asus products. for some reason they have to be different than everyone else also tend to be more expensive.

even with a 2.4GHz AXP, you're still gonna be noticing some considerable bottlenecks related to your cpu unless you crank up the AA/AF with the GT.

If the salespeson wrongly informed you of the specs of the card in order to sell it I dont think there'd be a problem returning it without paying a restocking fee...if the company has ANY brains or customer service standards they should take care of you.

Alright so everything went well. I got the 336 dollars I paid for it put back on to my credit card. It will probably take like a week in order to finally get back on their and be usable though. So in the mean time I need to decide what I really want. I figure I want a 6800GT 256mb DDR3 card this time. But I was wondering if I would be better off waiting and getting a new motherboard and processor since i could carry my ram over. I also need to pick up the Hyundai 19inch LCD 8ms soon sometime too (cramped dorm quarters lol). I thought oringnally that I should just get the gpu then the lcd but now I am kinda wonding if I just dont wanna go full out and do the mobo and proc and then buy a PCI express card. How much of a difference would it make and would it be worth it?

depends on ur financial situation...but personally id go full out, and get a sli mobo for sure...so u can add another 6800gt and *double* your performance...

Good call, well, not QUITE double, but i know that's what those quotes were for.....if you can afford it, it definitely WOULD be the better way to go.

If you're gonna do an all-out upgrade (cpu/mobo/vid card) right now this is what I'd recommend:

AMD A64 3000+ Venice
DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard
BFG 6800GT OC

The 3000+ could be subbed out for the 3200+ Venice, 200Mhz stock difference, less then $100 difference, and a little more flexible overclockability with the higher multiplier on the 3200+ if you're gonna be overclocking a lot...otherwise just stick with the 3000+ Venice IMO. The DFI SLI-DR is right now the highest performing and more overclockable/tweakable SLI motherboard on the market, and besides that, it looks fricken sick. There's a little bit of price difference between the SLI-DR and something like Asus' SLI board, but the DFI comes with a bundle that's about 4x the size...and a carrying harness for your case. The BFG might run a LITTLE more then most other 6800GT's on the market...but it's overclocked slightly out of the box, and BFG carries the best warranty in the business. Keep your reciept, if something happens with your card 4 years down the road, no questions asked (basically, obviously the basic warranty voiding activities like voltmodding still void this) you get a replacement card.

So yeah, feel free to question anything I've said or ask questions, but that is probly the best possible thing you could do right now for a cpu/gpu/mobo up grade without spending TOO much.

Well, if you are doing a system upgrade going "lesser" then that on the CPU doesn't make a LOT of sense.....if you wanna go SLI for upgradability there isn't a LOT of price difference between the different boards out there, and the SLI-DR is sitll easily worth the extra green. Lastly, i suppose you could move to a 6600GT now, and a second later, and you'd still be seeing some nice frame rates, which would shave a bit off the price.

Just wanted to provide another option.
