Looking to choose between a Thermalright ALX-800, SLK-900, or an XP-120.

Use:
Looking to OC a 2400xp (thoroughbred) and possibly upgrading to a mobile barton.
Additionally, looking to get a heatsink for the long run (1+ yr) for my next upgrade as well (i.e. a dual core chip may be?)

I'm looking to couple each of these heatsinks with a quiet fan though. And I know the XP-120 is not available yet.


What do you guys think in terms of upgradeability, noise, performance, and price?
 
xp120 is a64 only so you are stuck with slk9xx's and the sp97

i presume you cant screw through the mobo given your listed options so get the slk900a
 
whhy arent you lookin at the zalman 7000 AlCu? very quiet and performs better than those (when they have quiet fans)

xp-120 is not an option for socket a. only can work with socket 478 +a64 sockets.

what do y'all recommend? May be I'll just go with the Zalman or the ALX-800 since its cheaper...

Willing to spend about $30 for the heatsink. Another $5-10 for the fan if need be.

if you only want to spend that much, I'd just say get the Zalman. Otherwise Sp97 or Slk900

even the pure Cu Zalman 7000 is 45...you can get the AlCu version for 40 shipped from newegg. that includes a fan ya know ;)
 
Thermalright SLK-948U...put a nice ratio cfm/dB 92mm (or 80mm) fan and it'll be the best heatsink for an A64...unless you count those monstrosities like the Hyper 6 heatpipe thing...
 
You can get the alx-800 for $10 at bestbyte.net and you can get sunnon version of the tornado for $10 also. But thats a little loud.
 
A Zalman does sound good and I know they're quiet (no need to worry about fan). But will it fit my AN35-Ultra board?? The Zalmans are hella big!
I'm assuming as far as OCing goes..the Zalman can take on the Thermalrights (may be 1-3C hotter max?).

I'm really leaning toward a 35w 2400xp or a 45w 2600xp. Not sure yet.
