Upgrade?

Thinking of going from this:

PCP&C 425W Deluxe
Abit IC7-G
P4 2.8C
Zalman 7000
1GB BH-5
XFX 6600GT AGP

to this:

PCP&C 510 PCI-E
DFI 915P-T12
P4 3.4 LGA
Thermalright XP-120
1GB BH-5
XFX 6600GT PCI-E


My goal is to reach 4GHz with the new system which I think will last for a long time - until the dual core chips have been out for a while and there are actually some 64bit programs.

One reason I'm tired of the current setup is this board only puts out 2.8 vdimm which is barely enough for this BH-5 to run it's rated speed. My chip won't do 3.5GHz so I can't use the 5:4 divider.

With the DFI board, I can crank it up to 3.2 vdimm and hopefully my BH-5 will do at least 235MHz at 2-2-2-5 which will give me a nice even 4GHz clock speed.

The reasons I don't want a A64 is the lack of HT, which I think I would really miss and I don't want to wait for the NF4 boards to mature. My 6600GT does fine for all the gaming I do, although I plan to get a HIS X800XL dual DVI when they come out.

I really think this machine running at 4GHz and possibly a 250MHz fsb, if I lower the multiplier, will have enough horsepower to handle anything I throw at it for a good year or so.

I would probably just get the Thermalright XP-90 and a 92mm Tornado myself. If you will compare a few reviews the XP-90 and XP-120 are nearly identical for cooling performance. The XP-120 will take up more room and is heavier. Its also only compatible with a handful of motherboards so it may not work with the next board you want.

I'd also wait till i could get ahold of a better PCI-E video card but you can always sell the 6600GT i suppose.
